“The reason for concern about aluminum-based products is that they temporarily block the sweat ducts and, when absorbed, can affect the breast cells’ estrogen receptors,” says Shari Sperling, MD, a board-certified dermatologist who practices in Florham Park . NJ “More studies need to be done to determine if there is a link, but the data suggest there is no link between breast cancer and aluminum. However, if there is a personal or family history of breast cancer, it can’t hurt to avoid these aluminum products to be on the safe side.” Natural deodorants don’t prevent sweating, but they can help reduce and mask odors through fragrances and odor neutralizers, and Absorb sweat through ingredients like starch and baking soda.
