5 Tips and Tricks for mastering Arkane’s latest installment, Redfall

Redfall, Arkane’s new game, is finally here, but it seems a little disappointing, if not entirely terrible. Recent reviews from Redfall have concluded that while the developers’ attempt to create a Borderlands-style game falls short in many ways, the game still has some entertaining aspects, including its visually pleasing world, reasonable shooting mechanics, and intriguing storylines . Additionally, the game is available on Xbox Game Pass, which might be a bonus for some players.

However, Redfall has some significant issues that new players should be aware of, especially those who launch the game at launch. These issues may be fixed or improved in future updates, but for now, players should consider the following Redfall tips to help them navigate the game.

1. Can’t jump in between

Redfall’s gameplay is split into two distinct areas on the island’s coast. However, once you complete the first area, you cannot go back there, and the same goes for the last area once you defeat the last boss. While Redfall warns you that you can’t return to the first area after completing the final mission, it can be easy to miss the notification that the final boss will immediately throw you into a new Game+ mode. To identify the last mission you can look for the mission table where it will be positioned on the right side of the window. While it may be tempting to reveal the names of the missions, it’s best not to do so as it could be seen as a spoiler. Once you’ve completed all the missions, the window will fill up, signaling your readiness to move on to the next area.

2. Choose the right class

If you’re having trouble picking a class in Redfall, here are some tips on each hero to help you decide.

  • Jacob is perfect for those who prefer stealth. His Raven ability is useful for seeing enemies through walls and marking them from afar. In addition, he can become invisible and has an ultimate ability that can hit enemies through walls.
  • devinder is great for traditional snipers. Its translocation signal comes in handy for reaching hard-to-reach areas like rooftops. Devinder can easily clear out enemy installations with a suppressed sniper rifle or the stake. Also, his AoE Ultimate can freeze groups of vampires.
  • layla is a versatile heroine who can use her psychic buoyancy ability to leap onto rooftops. Her fighting style is better suited to shotguns at close range. Her umbrella can cause explosions and block incoming attacks at close range, while her ultimate ability can distract enemies.
  • draw is ideal for those who prefer a more aggressive playstyle. Her robotic companion can tank vampires and her healing aura provides regenerating health. In addition, her C4 Charge Ultimate is effective for clearing rooms of enemies3. Tip and trick for more effective combat and stealth approaches

  • Redfall is a unique game from Arkane in that it doesn’t have a dodge or parry button, despite frequent melee combat. There are no insta-kill stealth takedown abilities for vampires, and level scaling can render weapons ineffective. Here are some combat tips to survive Redfall.
  • Circle strafing is an effective technique to deal with regular vampires. The AI gets stuck when players circle around it, and lunges don’t track players while they punish. Once Vampires reach about half health from shotgun blasts, they will stagger, giving players an opening for a few more shotgun shells. The Stake Gun is a powerful weapon that takes out most vampires in one shot, so players should keep it stocked. The UV gun is also useful for taking out groups of vampires at once. A quick hit against a petrified vampire is usually an instant kill, but petrified mini-boss vampires should be shot with the stake gun as they take less damage while petrified with other weapons.
  • Human enemies are not very intelligent and generally ignore corpses. Players can distract them with tools like the Flare Gun, which will summon nearby human enemies to examine the flare rather than where it was fired. The flare gun has a long range and can be useful for luring people into oil spills or other hazards.
  • The game does not specify which weapons are suitable for stealth. Some weapons such as Silenced sniper rifles, for example, generally don’t fully alert enemies when fired. Noises such as piano playing also attract the attention of enemies. Semi-automatic rifles seem fine for stealth play while crouched, but bolt-action rifles are noisier. Stakeguns are “silent” and only draw the attention of nearby enemies without directly alerting them. The Stake Gun has some bullet drop, but it’s fairly generous. While there is no “stealth kill” melee animation, backstabbing human enemies will kill most of them instantly, even if you knee them.
  • In summary, players can use circle strafing, shotgun staggers, stake guns, UV cannons, flare guns, suppressed weapons, and elbow strikes to complete the challenges of Redfall’s fight. These tips will help players survive and thrive in this unique Arkane game.4. Optimize your controls

Redfall players on consoles may experience strange interaction with Xbox controllers right out of the box. Luckily, there’s an “Input Response” preset in the Controller menu that can be adjusted to improve joystick handling. By default, the movement curve when dragging the joystick is too steep, resulting in abrupt turn rates. However, setting the input response to “low” gives a much smoother curve between slow and fast turning. On the other hand, setting it to “high” gives maximum rate of turn with minimum stick throw.

It’s worth noting that nobody is likely to do fancy trick shots in Redfall, but adjusting input response can still make gameplay more comfortable. After changing this setting, you may also need to adjust the controller sensitivity to compensate. If you set the Input Response to “Low” and increase the Controller Sensitivity to around 3.5, Redfall should feel more like a typical console FPS. Overall, players can fine-tune their controller settings for a more optimal gaming experience.

5. Think twice when disassembling weapons

Redfall’s loot system can be both simple and frustratingly important. The game’s enemies scale to your level, making your progress moot. However, your weapons will lose effectiveness as you progress, forcing you to look for new ones. The best way to find new weapons is to visit the game’s vampire lairs, denoted by blue door icons on the map. Legendary items are more likely to be found in the vaults that spawn after breaking a nest’s heart at the end of a combat event.

While all weapon types are important in Redfall, some are essential tools for dealing with specific threats. For example, a UV ray is a crucial weapon for freezing a group of vampires in close combat, while a stake gun deals massive damage to vampires from afar and can be used for sniping or indoor clearance. Normal weapons are not effective against vampires, and you should always have at least one stake weapon equipped.

Be careful if you accidentally salvage important or high-value weapons. Unfortunately, there’s no way to “pin” a weapon to prevent it from being recovered, but you can hold the left trigger to make recovery a bit more difficult.
