How To Press Tofu Without Paper Towels

That’d be 3 or 4 paper towels, (folded and layered), another (clean) dish towel, a wooden cutting board, (yet another) cutting board, the weight you keep with your old 30 day shred dvd and then slide the whole thing into the fridge.

You can squeeze or wring your hair dry, if it is long, or you can towel it. The longer you press your tofu, the more water you extract. I think it takes about 30 minutes use the pan method to squeeze enough liquid out of the tofu.

Take the three cuts of tofu and place them all the way to one end of the paper towel, right next to one another (because the newspaper fits three pieces of tofu perfectly if there is no space in between). Open tofu and drain off the water. Let the tofu sit for at least 30 minutes.

While this will work the reality is that you cannot control the amount of moisture left in the tofu and it is wasteful, considering all the sheets of paper towels that will be used to sandwich the tofu. It’s simple to do and requires very little effort. Wrap tofu up with paper towels; Wrap the block of tofu in a lint free towel (or you can use paper towels for this) and place it in the middle of a rimmed plate or baking sheet.
Make sure it is balanced. Leave it for 5 to 10 minutes. Put another layer of paper towels/kitchen towels on top of the sliced tofu.
Prep your other ingredients or peel garlic while you’re waiting. Put a layer of paper towels/kitchen towels on the chopping board. It takes around half an hour to press the tofu in preparation for cooking.

Yeah, that can work, too, but the tea towels do absorb extra moisture that doesn't drain out, leaving the tofu drier than the straight press method.
