The USA beat Germany 5-1 in their opening game in Edmonton. Luke Hughes, Logan Cooley, Landon Slaggert, Red Savage and Riley Duran scored the goals while Kaiden Mbereko netted the win.

Switzerland made a narrow 3-2 decision against Sweden on Wednesday. The Swiss played strong trapping in defense to cause problems for the Swedes, but two goals in the first minute of the third period to lead Sweden 3-0 made the difference. Switzerland scored goals from Attilio Biasco and Dario Allanspach to cut the lead to one but Sweden held on to victory.
