“I think it went the way we had imagined,” said Canada coach Dave Cameron of the opening win. “It’s early, this is really only our second game, so you knew it was going to come in ebbs and flows.”
It’s fair to say that it was a much closer competition than expected as Latvia was usually a team that Canada beat at the World Juniors. But victory is victory and now the focus shifts to the Slovaks.
Slovakia goes into the competition with a rest day. They met the Czech Republic in their first game on Tuesday and lost 4-5. The Slovaks stormed back from a 4-2 deficit in the third period but failed to complete the attempt.
Matej Kaslik scored two goals for Slovakia, while Servac Petrovsky and Rayen Petrovicky each recorded a goal and an assist. Slovakia goalkeeper Simon Latkoczy had to save 52 shots, save 47 and was named the player of the match.

Mason McTavish tracker
In each game, TSN will feature a Team Canada player who will be followed throughout the matchup.
For the game against Slovakia we will follow Mason McTavish. The Canada captain was one of four players to score two points and provide two assists in the team’s opener against Latvia. He centered the top line flanked by Connor Bedard and Joshua Roy.
McTavish, the #3 pick overall in the Ducks’ 2021 draft, is a taller forward who plays physical play and possesses an exceptional shot. He was one of the best players on the ice in the Canada opener and there’s no reason he won’t be back in the thick of it.

17 o’clock – Lineups for each side before the game. Carson Lambos and Riley Kidney are both injured while Ethan del Mastro and Brennan Othmann are drafting in for Canada. Othmann played in the team’s play but was scraped after a couple of penalties. De Mastro was a late replacement for the injured Daemon Hunt, so he’s caught up with the team.
