Eibar and Alavés start commanding in the SmartBank League

Sociedad Deportiva Eibar and Deportivo Alavés rose to the provisional SmartBank League lead this Saturday after beating Tenerife and Leganés respectively on a day one in Mirandés, and Las Palmas failed to beat Sporting and Zaragoza at home.

In Ipurua, Gaizka Garitano’s students beat Tenerife (2-1) thanks to a hard-fought comeback that culminated in the final minutes. The three points were certified by the gunsmiths in the 86th minute with a penalty converted by Stoichkov after Fede Venancio equalized just after the start of the second half.

Tenerife, who reached the final play-off last season, had taken the lead in the 49th minute with a goal from Mo Dauda but were unable to resist pressure from the stands spurred on by the Basques in the latter part of the game.
