Kayvon Thibodeaux injury update: Giants rookie leaves preseason game after taking cut block to right knee

The 2022 NFL Draft was, among other things, a declaration of love to Edge Rusher.

Whether it was Travon Walker, Aidan Hutchinson, or Kayvon Thibodeaux, it seems every team was looking for a player who could terrorize quarterbacks in the backfield.

Thibodeaux, the Giants’ No. 5, has long been hailed for his outstanding performances. However, the newly-turned pro may have to wait a little longer to make his regular-season arc.

Here’s the latest on Thibodeaux’s health after being pulled from New York’s preseason game against Cincinnati.

Kayvon Thibodeaux injury update

Thibodeaux suffered an apparent injury to his right knee early in the second quarter of Sunday’s game.

Thibodeaux appeared to have contracted the disease after receiving a surgical block on his right knee. The Michigan alum attempted to make a play against Bengals running back Chris Evans but was felled by a low block by Cincy’s tight end Thaddeus Moss. Thibodeaux collapsed and immediately grabbed his right knee.

The Giants tried to get the wagon out to bring their top pick to the sidelines. But Thibodeaux waved it off and hobbled to the touchline before heading to the medical tent for further evaluation.

Other angles of the cut block show how bad things could have been for the Giants’ first-round pick, with some accusing Moss of dirty play.

New York ruled out Thibodeaux for the remainder of the game. But despite the brutality of Moss’ block, the Giants appear confident that Thibodeaux avoided a serious injury, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Thibodeaux appeared to be in good spirits on the sidelines shortly after his illness, smiling as he spoke to some of his Giants teammates.

After the game, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Thibodeaux will undergo further testing on his injured knee on Monday.

Upon exiting the stadium, the edge rusher appeared to be in good spirits and did not appear to have any limp.

All things considered, the Giants appear to have avoided a serious injury to their top draft pick, and fans can breathe a sigh of relief.
