AFL players in the reserves: Who’s pressing their case for a senior return via VFL, WAFL or SANFL?
With the last eight suspended after a thrilling Round 23, clubs will now try to find their way in the pre-final bye as we approach the final day of September.
Carlton is outside the eight after a crushing one-point loss to arch-rival Collingwood.
This opened the door for the Western Bulldogs, who had a lead against Hawthorn to secure the final spot in the Eight.
Melbourne shot up to second after a demolition from Brisbane at Friday night’s Gabba, while Sydney finished third after surviving a scare from St Kilda.
Geelong took care of West Coast and now awaits the pies for the first qualifying final.
Richmond continues on their merry way as they prepare to meet the Lions in two weeks time.

Josh Schache submitted his name to be recalled for the first final against Fremantle.
Schache scored seven goals in a dominant display over the weekend and let manager Luke Beveridge know of his desire to be away from the senior team.
Josh Bruce and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan remained relatively calm in the win against Hawthorn, making way for the in-form Chess.
Toby McLean could also be considered to take on the Dockers and play his second game of the year.
Struggling with injuries, McLean has not had it easy over the past two seasons but has had a strong year in the VFL, including his weekend efforts.
The 2016 Premiership player amassed 34 touches, nine clearances and four points in the Dogs’ big win.
Collingwoods Callum Brown also raised his hand for a senior recall after an impressive performance in the VFL.
Brown, who fell out of favor in 2022, amassed 36 possessions and six releases at IKON Park.
The Pies meet Geelong in the first round of the finals and are hoping Taylor Adams will return in two weeks or the Son-of-a-Gun could be in for his seventh match of the year.
Mitch Robinson and Deven Robertson made it difficult for Chris Fagan at the selection table for the first elimination final against Richmond.
Robinson, who was the sub on Friday night, played in the VFL and had a day off, amassing 42 departures and 10 releases.
His accomplice Robertson put on a similar performance, scoring three goals from his 30 possessions and suggesting his name for recall.
The Lions don’t have much room for error in their quest for Premiership glory in 2022 and need to be near perfect from now on.
