Tom Brady responds to Reddit theory that absence from Buccaneers training camp was to appear on ‘The Masked Singer’
Tom Brady may not have worn a Buccaneers helmet in recent weeks, but he did wear a helmet while not at training camp. At least, that’s what he wants you to believe.
The Buccaneers quarterback returned to training camp on Monday and later denied a widespread rumor that he was away filming the Fox show The Masked Singer.
Instead, he shared an ad on Twitter in which he rode a motorcycle while wearing Brady Brand underwear.
Didn’t see the masked singer last week. But wore a mask. https://t.co/E3wg9LaC1I

The video has clearly been altered, although well done.
And of course, since the singing competition show is notoriously secretive, anyone who finished filming The Masked Singer would be in denial about filming The Masked Singer. Viewers and contestants must sign non-disclosure agreements, according to CheatSheet and The Wrap. Participants must also hide their voice at all times and can only interact with certain members of the crew.
Needless to say, the show takes cast secrecy very seriously.
The theory began circulating last weekend as Brady continued his mysterious absence from training camp. A Reddit post identified several reasons why it seemed plausible that Brady could be on the show, including his massive contract being signed to join Fox when he retires and the fact that the show is filmed was made while Brady was off the team. Former teammates Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Brown, as well as Fox analyst and former quarterback Terry Bradshaw have all appeared on the show in the past.

Brady ended his 11-day break from training camp on Monday. The latest report of his absence came from ProFootballNetwork, which reported that he was on vacation in the Bahamas with his family.
Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles has previously described Brady’s absence as a planned hiatus for personal reasons. Bowles noted that Brady would not play in the first two preseason games, regardless of whether he had been at camp. He didn’t comment on whether Brady could play in the team’s third and final preseason game.
“If anyone gets away with the 11-day break during training camp, it’s Tom,” tight end Cameron Brate said, according to The Associated Press. “He came back and fired from all guns again. We are all delighted that he is back and ready to move on.”

There won’t be a word on whether Brady was actually on “The Masked Singer,” likely until he either appears — or doesn’t appear — in the upcoming season. For those wondering, the series will have its eighth season starting September 21st.
