Eminem Reveals He Had To Relearn How To Rap Due To Drug Overdose
After an accidental methadone overdose that ended his increasingly popular career in 2007, Eminem finally describes the treacherous journey he embarked on to regain his potential and “relearn” how to write the same quality verse and prose and composed which marked the start of his star career with no future dependence on methadone.
Eminem revisited his accidental overdose fifteen years later during Paul Rosenberg’s, his longtime manager since Eminem’s first debut in 1997, on the daily podcast titled “Paul Pod,” and discussed at length how fortunate he was to have had the opportunity to to learn again how to make music without artificial influence and really enjoy it. When asked about his then comeback album, 2009, with the exact title Relapse, Eminem said, “I remember when I first got sober and all the shit was out of my system, I remember I just really happy and everything was fucking new to me.”
According to Consequence.com, Eminem had some difficulties regaining his former talent and that it “took a long time for my brain to start working again,” with Rosenberg even voicing concerns that Eminem might have permanent brain damage from listening to Eminem’s initial attempts .
All of this goes to show that Eminem’s return to fame wasn’t as easy as the esteemed rapper made it seem. For him, going back to substance-free rapping seemed like a “very different experience,” as Eminem describes the feeling of starting his music career from scratch.
However, since his comeback album in 2009, Eminem’s career has continued to skyrocket as he continues to release album after album and participates in multiple collaborations and special performances with a number of other respected rappers including Snoop Dogg at the 2022 VMAs and Super Bowl. Just last month, Eminem also released a second greatest hits album, which compiles many songs from previous albums that fans love year after year.
