However, the Broncos still aren’t buzzing offensively and couldn’t break away from the Skyhawks through the fourth quarter last week. After a six-year bowl drought last season, UTEP has struggled to a 1-3 mark as the 2022 season begins. The Miners beat New Mexico last week but lost 27-10 due to seven turnovers.

The Bulls were in play through the end of the fourth quarter, but defensive problems surfaced again as the Chanticleers averaged 9.5 yards per game. Eastern Michigan is aiming for a fourth bowl eligibility in the last five seasons under coach Chris Creighton after a huge 30-21 win at Arizona State last week.

The Panthers are 1-1 under first-year coach Mike MacIntyre but are still seeking their first win against an FBS opponent. Western Kentucky must avoid facing a big game next week with Sun Belt opponent Troy. Quarterback Austin Reed, a transfer from Division II West Florida, has been solid with nine touchdown passes in his first three FBS-level games for the Hilltoppers.

Utah State is coming off a bye and looking to taste a 35-7 loss to FCS Weber State. The Aggies are the reigning Mountain West champions but with a 1-2 start. UNLV will be looking to pull off a six-game losing streak against their MWC nemesis.

The Spartans were eliminated in Week 2 last week after a hard-fought 16-24 loss in Auburn. The Spartans were particularly stingy in two games in 2022 while trying to regain the momentum gained during a 7-1 season in 2020.
