Looking for a place to have a drink and hang out like a true New Yorker? Ray’s Bar is a popular NYC hotspot, inspired by the reassuring familiarity of local bars across America, offering a friendly neighborhood eatery on Manhattan’s Lower East Side – the place where even travelers from Colorado to London feel at home. Designed for New Yorkers to network and collaborate, the effortlessly cool Chrystie Street Waterhole invites future friends to meet and gather at Miller High Lifes and smash burgers in a small-town bar. The hometown bar is part of Authentic Hospitality’s “instant hit” list, including Pebble Bar, Bar Calico and The Jane. pictures here and menus here. Ray’s thrives on cheerful simplicity, offering classic bar staples that are well made. Along with a selection of gin, tequila, rum, whiskey, and vodka, guests will find a selection of bottled beers (often Midwest origins). The quintessential bar menu is full of delicious absurdities like Petit chicken (chicken nuggets) or Batonnets De Mozz (Mozzarella Sticks with Monte’s Sauce); Ray always makes sure you’re on the alert. Other guest favorites include Royale with cheese (single or double cheeseburger), Cigars Au Chicken (Buffalo Chicken Taquitos) and The dog (Hot dog).
Ray’s takes its Americana design cues from the popular and distressed hometown bars found across the country. The team hired artist Matt McCormick to collaborate on the project. The corner bar on Chrystie Street is stocked with the familiar staples you would easily find in the home basement bar your father built; Wood paneling, vinyl booths, vintage neon signs, checkerboard floors, a pool table that has seen better days, and autographed photos of people it may or may not have met. The team was opened in February 2020 Down with Ray, a hidden place just below the main bar. Designed by The Springs Collective, the subterranean space features floor-to-ceiling shag carpets, tartan-carpeted walls and a working fireplace. The humble destination values good company to the sounds of contemporary country, Southern rock and hip-hop.
Ray’s is located at 177 Chrystie St, New York, NY 10002, open Monday-Friday 5:00pm-2:00am, Saturday-Sunday 1:00pm-2:00am.
