How to Update Kodi on Your Amazon Fire TV Stick
For the latest bug fixes and potentially new features, update the Kodi app on your Amazon Fire TV Stick. You need to update manually as the app is not available on Amazon’s official app store. We’ll guide you through the process to do so.
To update Kodi, first download the free Downloader app (if you don’t already have a download app), enable sideloading on your Fire TV Stick, and then use Downloader to get the latest version of Kodi.

Step 1: Install Downloader on your Fire TV Stick
First, access your Fire TV Stick’s home screen with the Home button on your remote. Once there, select the “Appstore” option.
Tip: Learn what to do if your Fire TV Stick remote isn’t working.
In the Appstore, select “Search” and type “Downloader”. Then select “Downloader” in the search results.
On the app’s page, select “Download” or “Get” to install the app on your device.
And that’s it. Downloader is now available on your Fire TV Stick.
Step 2: Enable app sideloading on your Fire TV Stick
To install (or update) apps from outside of the official app store, you must enable sideloading of apps on your Fire TV Stick. Note that if Kodi is already installed on your device, sideloading is likely already enabled. If this is the case, you can proceed to step 3. If you’re not sure or are encountering problems, follow these steps to confirm it’s enabled.
From your Fire TV Stick’s home screen, select “Settings”. Then select “My Fire TV”.
From the My Fire TV menu, choose Developer Options. If you don’t see this option, learn how to enable “Developer Options” on your Fire TV Stick.
If you haven’t already done so, enable the “Apps from unknown sources” option.
At the prompt, choose “Turn on”.
And that’s it. You can now download the latest version of Kodi via Downloader and install it on your device.
Step 3Update Kodi on your Fire TV Stick
To start updating Kodi now, launch Downloader by pressing and holding the home button on the remote, selecting “Apps” and selecting the Downloader app.
On Downloader’s first screen, allow access to your files by selecting “Allow”.
On the following page, select the “Enter a URL or search term” field and enter the following. Then select Go.
kodi.tv/download
On the following page, select Android > ARMV7A (32-bit). This will download the latest version of Kodi to your Fire TV Stick.
When the download is complete, select “Install” in the command prompt that opens. This will install the latest Kodi version and overwrite the existing version.
Once Kodi is installed, you can launch it by selecting “Open”.
And that’s it. You are now running the latest version of Kodi on your Amazon Fire TV Stick. Make sure to check out all the new things this version has in store for you!
