How to turn on ‘Extreme Battery Saver’ on your Pixel

Most devices have some sort of battery saver mode, while Google’s Pixel range comes with an “Extreme Battery Saver”. So what is it and what makes it extreme? This guide will walk you through it.

On most Android devices, the power saving mode works in a very similar way. Unnecessary processes are shut down in the background, your screen’s refresh rate slows down (even to the point where variable refresh rate is disabled entirely), and your phone switches to a dark theme to save energy. You may also find that certain features are missing, e.g. B. the always-on display.

All of these limitations combine to greatly improve your battery’s efficiency, and Battery Saver mode can roughly mean the difference between a dead phone in two minutes or an extra 25 minutes of power.

So what is the Pixel’s Extreme Battery Saver?

In addition to the normal battery saver mode, the Pixel’s extreme battery saver mode is an additional level of battery efficiency. To use the latter, you must first have the battery saver mode active.

Once it does, you can access the extreme version, which goes beyond disabling some features. Rather, Extreme Battery Saver turns off most of your apps and pauses notifications from them entirely. Essentially, most non-essential apps will stop background usage entirely.

This feature is used for pretty dire circumstances and can give you even more battery life when you really need it. While you can’t access most apps in Extreme Battery Saver mode on the Pixel, you can classify some apps as essential. After that, those apps can be used while the restriction is on.

Here’s how to turn it on

Before you turn it on, you need to make some settings that define how you use it.

  1. Go to your settings on your Pixel by swiping down twice and pressing Settings gear.
  2. Beat battery.
  3. blow battery saver.
  4. Choose Extreme battery saver.
  5. Choose when you want to use it – you can choose to have it turn on automatically with the normal battery saver mode, or you can let your Pixel ask you first.
  6. Choose your most important apps.
    • Note: Don’t go wild. The fewer apps you select, the better your battery life.
