How to switch to Netflix’s cheaper ad plan

(Pocket-lint) – Netflix is ​​rolling out a cheaper plan with ads on 3 November in the US, UK and several other key countries.

Dubbed Basic with Ads, the ad-supported subscription plan lets you watch Netflix for a lower price. You can stream HD video quality (up to 720p) on any supported phone, tablet, computer or TV. But unlike Netflix’s ad-free plans, commercials are shown before or during most TV shows and movies — and most importantly, some movies and TV shows may not be available due to licensing restrictions. Downloads are also not included.

However, with the advertising plan, you get Netflix games without ads! Confusing right? Anyway, if you want to try this to save money, especially during the winter months, it’s easy.

How to get Netflix’s Basic advertising plan

You can either sign up for Basic with Ads or, if you’re already a member, change your plan.

Current Netflix subscribers

If you’re currently a Netflix member, you can upgrade your plan to Basic with ads.

1. Visit netflix.com/youraccount.
2. Sign in to your Netflix account.
3. Under Plan Details, select Change Plan.
   • If you don’t see Change plan, contact Netflix here.
   • If your account is suspended, Netflix won’t let you change your plan.
4. Choose the plan you want, then Next or Upgrade.
5. Choose Confirm Change or Confirm.

New Netflix Subscribers

If you’re new to Netflix, you can sign up for the Basic plan with ads just like any other plan.

1. Visit netflix.com/signup.
2. Choose a plan. You can change or cancel plans at any time.
   • Netflix’s Basic with Ads plan won’t start until November 2022.
3. Create an account by entering your email address and creating a password.
4. Enter a payment method.
5. That’s it.

Can you change a Netflix subscription at any time?

Yes, you can downgrade or upgrade between plans at any time. But there are a few things to keep in mind when trying to switch your Netflix plan.

• A plan upgrade takes effect immediately. Your billing date will change based on the balance of your most recent payment.
• A plan downgrade with a lower price will take effect on your next billing date. You can continue to use the higher plan features until your next billing date.

How many ads does Netflix’s advertising plan contain?

You can expect to see around 4 minutes of advertising per hour on average, and an ad can last up to 30 seconds. You cannot skip or fast-forward ads, but you can pause playback during an ad.
