Apple has announced its newly updated 2022 iPad Pro model, which is already available for pre-order. Don’t expect big changes on the design front. Instead, Apple has given the iPad Pro updated internal specs with the addition of the M2 chip and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
The 2022 iPad Pros are priced the same as the previous generation. The 11-inch iPad Pro 2022 starts at $800 and the 12.9-inch model starts at $1,100. Both models are available to pre-order now, starting Wednesday October 26th.
The iPad Pro 2022 features the same M2 processor used in Mac laptops
The new iPad Pros run on Apple’s M2 processor versus the M1 processor in the 2021 iPad Pros. Apple’s M2 processor is also used in Mac laptops, including the 2022 MacBook Air and 2022 13-inch MacBook Per.
Apple claims that the M2 processor in the new 2022 iPad Pros offers a 15% performance boost over the previous generation. It’s unlikely to be noticeable with simple apps and lighter workloads – professionals with heavy workloads are more likely to notice a difference.
With the M2 processor, the new 2022 iPad Pros can record, edit and publish videos in Apple’s professional ProRes video format.
Apple Pencil detection
The M2 processor also supports a new Apple Pencil feature that gives users a visual cue as to where their Pencil would land on the screen. The iPad Pro is compatible with the second generation Pencil and can detect the stylus up to 12mm above the screen. This can be useful for tasks like photo editing or drawing that require you to place the pencil precisely on a specific part of the screen.
Faster WiFi
Apple has upgraded the iPad Pros 2022 with the latest and fastest Wi-Fi 6E standard for downloads up to 2.4 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is twice as fast as the iPad Pros 2021. To add Wi-Fi 6E to the To take full advantage of the new 2022 iPad Pros, you need Wi-Fi devices that also support Wi-Fi 6E.
Otherwise, almost everything else in the new 2022 iPad Pros is identical to the 2021 models. They even have the exact same dimensions, weight, and 12.9-inch and 11-inch screen sizes as the previous 2021 iPad Pros.
