Spurs vs. Pacers Preview: How to Watch, Lineups, Injury News, More
The San Antonio Spurs (0-1) and Indiana Pacers (0-1) both want their first wins of the 2022-23 NBA season. A team will achieve this when they compete against each other on Friday.
The Spurs suffered a 129-102 loss to the Charlotte Hornets, who were as much as a 35-point deficit at one point. Keldon Johnson finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Jakob Poeltl recorded 14 points and nine boards, while Tre Jones (14), Doug McDermott (12) and Josh Primo (10) also had double digits.
“You start with the fact that we took a hit. You don’t avoid it. You’re not hiding from it. We got a kick in the butt. “What it takes at this level: Physicality. Something like that. It improved a bit in the second half, but it’s a process.”
The Pacers and Spurs have a lot in common. While the Spurs did win championships at the peak of their powers, unlike the Pacers, both organizations have long prided themselves on competing as much as possible. Every team has experienced a downturn that prompted the start of a rebuild.
Before the midseason close last season, the Pacers made trades from Domantas Sabonis and Caris LeVert. In return, they ended up bringing in Tyrese Haliburton as their backcourt heart of the future. They were also able to draft Chris Duarte and Bennedict Mathurin.
Myles Turner landed on a ball boy’s foot during the Pacers’ warm-up before their season opener. He’s expected to miss at least one week of action as a result, and that includes Friday’s matchup against Spurs.
