Six Nations 2023 LIVE rugby: Scotland vs Wales latest score and updates from Murrayfield
Six Nations week one recap: England struggle while Ireland make statement
Wales hope to bounce back from a sobering defeat by Ireland in last weekend’s Six Nations opener when they travel to Edinburgh this afternoon to face Scotland.
The second Warren Gatland era began with a disastrous first half and a tough defeat by Ireland, but Wales have won five of the last six meetings between these two sides and will be keen to show more than they did a week ago.
Meanwhile, Scotland secured their third consecutive Calcutta Cup victory against England when Duhan van der Merwe shot over the line six minutes from time to put the Scots ahead and complete a brilliant comeback victory.
Head coach Gregor Townsend has warned his side that the win will count for little unless they back it up at home against Wales as they look to win their first two Six Nations games for the first time since 1996.

ATTEMPT! SCOTLAND 11-0 Wales (George Turner attempt, 31 mins)
The first angle shows it – ball against turf and George Turner has scored!

Attempt? Scotland 6-0 Wales, 30 minutes
George Turner storms off the alley – looks like he’s been held up but Andrew Brace is keen to check in with TMO Brian MacNeice…

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 29 minutes
What a cover tackle by Rio Dyer! Scotland play with penalty advantage in their maw, Finn Russell pulls off one of those luscious rainbows to launch Blair Kinghorn into space.
Kinghorn’s transfer to Kyle Steyn is quick and the wing accelerates towards the corner, but Dyer shows his pace to come back and propel him towards the touch.
A helpful shoulder from Josh Adams – briefly looked at by TMO but ruled legal – helps force Steyn out. Back Scotland will come after the penalty for another lineup.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 28 minutes
There’s no semblance of flow in that first half. Again errors from both teams, first Scotland threw a bad pass and then Wales rushed in from an offside position after their final punt in the air.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 26 minutes
However, Scotland’s defense is solid for now. Wales strives to cause them stress as they fail to regularly manage to win the payline and Jamie Ritchie spots an exposed ball when three Welshmen hit the deck and there is no one left to clear the ruck. The Scottish captain is awarded a penalty.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 25 minutes
The mistakes continue. Finn Russell’s misfire sails full out. Offensive possession for Wales sure to capitalize at some point.

Penalty missed! Scotland 6-0 Wales, 24 minutes
Or not! Unlikely pulled to the left by Dan Biggar about 40 yards away. A poor lady by his high standards.
Stuart Hogg failed his HIA – Blair Kinghorn will stay.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 23 minutes
Another relatively fundamental error from Wales, Dillon Lewis coldly dropping the ball as he raises his eyes and prepares to make contact.
But a scrum penalty should give Wales the first points of the day.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 22 minutes
It’s been a real struggle for breakdown so far, with Wales’ two openside threats busy with it whenever they can. Truly one of the best ball players in Europe, Tommy Reffell forces Sione Tuipulotu to throw an extra shot as he tries to compete. Andrew Brace punishes the Scottish center.

Scotland 6-0 Wales, 21 minutes
Oh Wales, this all sounds pretty familiar. They load the tens channel with carriers while shooting away from the base of the scrum, but in the words of referee Andrew Brace, “All defenders are offside.” Another missed opportunity.
