Dolphins 2023 preview: Can Bennett lift his battlers?
The NRL expands to 17 teams this season and the club entering first class for the first time is the Dolphins. Despite the Redcliffe club failing to sign a star, super coach Wayne Bennett is expected to conjure up his roster anyway.
This is the Dolphins’ first season in the National Rugby League after being licensed to play as the 17th team in the competition. The club finished third in QCup with 11 wins before losing to the North Devils 10-16 in the Grand Final.

This is what 2023 looks like for Redcliffe
While most team previews are on The sporty basis will focus on the players and their performances, there’s only one big question mark surrounding the Dolphins: Can Wayne Bennett work his magic on a very average list on paper? If he can repeat his old coaching form, the Dolphins could shock a lot in 2023.
The bottom line, however, is that they failed to make it into the top flight of rugby league, led by an absolute star in the park. The club’s backbone – Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Anthony Milford, Sean O’Sullivan and Jeremy Marshall-King – is some of the most mediocre in the competition and the forward pack is heavy with aging veterans and small players who would fill benches at other teams . Bennett certainly has his hands full getting quality out of this red and white stone.
