Sporting Lisbon make Goncalo Inacio decision

Liverpool are now scouting Goncalo Inacio for his move from Sporting Lisbon this summer. His Liga Portugal side could also let the defender go for less than his release clause.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who are reporting that Liverpool sent scouts to take over the rule on Inacio last Sunday. Anfield bosses appreciate what the 21-year-old is producing in Portugal and can bring to England. A change is also not out of the question after seeing him in action.

Liverpool are now ready to put forward their plans to seal a transfer with Sporting Lisbon for Inacio. Their scouts took part in the Leos’ derby against Porto at the weekend, which the Dragoes won 2-1. Nevertheless, the young central defender impressed the Red scouts present.

A move by Liverpool to sign Inacio from Sporting Lisbon is now much more than a thought for the future. The Premier League team could also add the Portugal Under-21 international to Jurgen Klopp’s squad for less than the €45m release clause in his contract until 2026.

The Leoes are likely to consider offers under the clause if Ruben Amorim doesn’t get a Champions League football next season. Sporting Lisbon is fourth in the table and in the qualifying round of the Conference League. But they are 10 points behind the Champions League places.

Porto’s victory at the Leoes extended a 10-point advantage in second place over Sporting Lisbon in fourth. Benfica are also 15 points clear of Amorim’s squad at the top of the table. While Braga are two points behind Porto and third in the only place in the Champions League qualifying round.

Liverpool aren’t the only ones considering a transfer for Sporting Lisbon star Inacio

Amorim can lead Sporting Lisbon to the Champions League should they win the Europa League this season. The Leos host FC Midtjylland for the first leg of their knockout round play-offs on Thursday. But Liverpool will hope they fail to ramp up their Inacio ambitions.

Several unnamed teams are also expressing interest in a transfer from Liverpool for Inacio from Sporting Lisbon. While Noticias Ao Minuto also reported that Newcastle United failed in a €30m (£26.5m) bid for the defender last year. They wanted his release clause in full.

Inacio has now attracted Liverpool interest as his meteoric rise at the Estadio Jose Alvalade continues. At just 21, the Leoes product has amassed 102 first-team games for nine goals and seven assists. He has recorded two in 32 appearances so far this season.
