A few pictures of Princess Diana in a Philadelphia Eagles jacket have resurfaced online, leaving the NFL community stunned. The images seem so inexplicable, and with good reason. Most people wouldn’t be that surprised if it was a football shirt, but Eagles merchandise, really?

The Philly fanbase was curious to know about the connection to Princess Diana, and the story brought a smile to many of their faces. Marnie Schneider, the granddaughter of former Eagles owner Leonard Tose, appeared on a CBS Philadelphia pre-Super Bowl podcast to tell the story of Princess Diana and the green jacket.
“She wasn’t exactly an Eagles fan, but she loved the colors of the Philadelphia Eagles,‘ Schneider said on the show.
DIVE DEEPER
The story dates back to the funeral of Princess of Monaco Grace Kelly in 1982. Diana was the representative of the royal family at this special funeral. Before her marriage, Grace Kelly was from Philadelphia, and of course Philly was well represented at the funeral. Eventually, Princess Diana found herself in the company of Eagles statistician Jack Gemstone.
Gem told the Philadelphia Daily News, “She thought soccer was like soccer. She asked, ‘What are your colors?’ I said, ‘Green and silver.’ She said, “Those are my favorite colors.”
In the end, Jack Juwel promised her Eagles merch: “We also sent her a beautiful Eagles jacket that was made for her. It was Leonard Tose’s idea. He was never second rate‘ said Gemstone.
However, the recently resurfaced images sent NFL Twitter into a frenzy as people opted to take the same old narcissistic approach to things.
However, some of the reactions were quite wholesome and showed the appreciation people still have for them.

Princess of the people
Princess Diana’s humility and down-to-earthness was a separating factor from the other royals. She unintentionally appealed to the masses and even decades after her death, people still speak of her in high esteem.
When a photo of Princess Diana wearing the jacket appeared on the cover of a 1994 issue of PEOPLE, new team owner Jeffrey Lurie had the magazine cover enlarged so he could hang it in his office at Veterans Stadium.
