Iconic Yas Marina Circuit to stage World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi raves

Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Sports Council has announced the official circuits for the World Triathlon Championship Series race in Abu Dhabi presented by Daman, with Yas Marina Circuit selected as the venue. The medals for the participants were also revealed.
The season-opening race, taking place on March 3rd and 4th, will see the world’s best professional and amateur triathletes go head-to-head at one of Abu Dhabi’s iconic sporting destinations as the prestigious competition travels to the home of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix dhabi returns
The event, which will attract thousands of local, regional and international triathletes, features fifteen race categories including elite men’s and women’s, elite para and age group, juniors and special races for determined athletes.
The race begins with the swim course in the aquamarine waters of Yas Marina against the stunning backdrop of the W Abu Dhabi Hotel and the famous motorsport circuit, surrounded by spectacular mega yachts and luxury boats. This swim is well-known on triathlon circuits around the world as one of the most beautiful swims of the season.
After completing the swim, the triathletes have a unique opportunity to complete the same course that Formula 1 drivers have when cycling around the track. The bike course is described by the race organizers as “a technical level that will delight experienced triathletes looking for a challenge, but is also well suited for beginners”. The grandstands will also be open for fans to cheer on their favorite triathletes as they make their way around the circuit.
The final leg of the race will be the all-important run to the finish line, with the flat course offering the opportunity to set personal best times in front of thousands of spectators.
The World Triathlon Championship Series Abu Dhabi 2023 medals have also been announced, which will be awarded to all participants who complete their race. In addition, the top three in each age group will be presented with podium medals on stage.
The center of the medal, designed in the United Arab Emirates, is the “World Triathlon” globe with the three peak elements representing the nine points of dynamic balance common to all triathletes: swim-bike-run, mind-body-spirit, earth-air-water. Surrounding the globe are three spinning orbits, showing how these elements combine harmoniously.
Mohammed Ahmed Al Rumaithi, Director of International Events at Abu Dhabi Sports Council, said: “We are delighted to announce that Yas Marina Circuit will once again be the venue for the World Triathlon Championship Series race in Abu Dhabi.
“While it is famous for its motorsport competitions, it is also a multi-purpose venue, suitable for a range of different activities and we have worked closely with our strategic partners to ensure the races are fun, competitive and offer participants a unique opportunity offer to challenge themselves at an iconic world-class venue.
“Besides the circuits, we are also improving the way people enjoy the action, with the Event Village offering plenty of activities for everyone, while there will be numerous locations across the island where you can see the world’s best triathletes and your family and cheer on friends.
“Hosting the World Triathlon Championship Series is part of our ongoing effort to grow sport in Abu Dhabi and strengthen the emirate’s position as the world’s leading sporting destination.”

Located on the Formula 1 pit lanes, the free entry village houses various F&B outlets, children’s play areas, sponsor stands, perfect viewing platforms for the race and the official merchandise shop.

The World Triathlon Championship Series in Abu Dhabi has attracted some of the biggest names in triathlon. In the men’s category, the top 10 triathletes will be in action, with French World No. 1 and World Champion Leo Bergere topping the star list.
In the women’s category, world No. 2 Georgia Taylor-Brown will be the highest ranked athlete, who will also represent six other top 10 world triathletes including world No. 3 Taylor Spivey of the USA.
In the Para races, Tokyo Paralympic star Eva Maria Moral Pedrero, bronze medalist in the highly competitive PTWC class, will return after giving birth to a baby girl. The bronze medalist from Tokyo in the PTS4 class, Alejandro Sanchez Palomero, will also compete in the Para-Triathlon Cup.
There’s also the Age Group race categories, designed to appeal to athletes of all ages and abilities – from first-time triathletes looking for a new challenge; for experienced triathletes looking for a new personal record; to young athletes from the age of 6 years.
