Tiger Woods gave us a great performance after an 844-day sabbatical from the PGA Tour. He finished the Genesis Invitational 1 under par. Additionally, this is considered to be his best performance since his unfortunate accident. As a result, he was nominated for the Comeback of the Year award by the Laureus World Sports Awards. But with Francesco Bagnaia he has strong competition.
In the final round of the 2022 MotoGP season, Bagnaia secured his first championship title by overcoming a 91-point deficit over reigning champion Fabio Quartararo. Despite five falls, Bagnaia managed the biggest turnaround in MotoGP history.
Meanwhile, Woods started his first round at the event with playing partners Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas. He closed the round with 3 straight birdies. The unexpected performance of the 15-time major champion with his persistent injuries left fans in awe.
But things quickly turned sour when footage of the legend giving Thomas a tampon after driving it went viral. The audience found the gesture demeaning towards women and especially female athletes. What’s more, this whole incident upset people so much that all the attention was diverted from his great comeback performance.
In the meantime, news of this award could shift audience focus and provide Tiger with some much-needed comfort.
Wood’s amazing performance at the Genesis Invitational
The great golfer’s performance at the tournament was particularly remarkable given the challenges he had faced over the past two years. Woods had played sparingly since his accident and had not competed in a non-major event since October 2020. However, he showed no signs of rust and en route to the finish posted his lowest single-round result since the accident – a 67 on Saturday, one under par for the tournament.
