How I Met Your Father EPs Confirm How Latest HIMYM Surprise Return Doesn’t Retcon Original Character Reveal

Season 2 of Hulu How I met your father has continued to keep fans engaged as we wait to see who Hilary Duff’s character ends with and continue to be amazed by the fun How I Met Your Mother cameos. The newest HIMYM Cameo brought back Alexis Denisof as news reporter Sandy Rivers, although he was there the last time we saw him on the CBS sitcom. Lucky one HIMYF Co-creator clears the air and explains why this reporter’s return doesn’t tell his original story.
Sandy Rivers had a tumultuous arc How I Met Your Mother, who started out as Robin’s co-host in season one and then returned in seasons 6 and 9. The reporter, known for being shabby and inadequate at work, was banned from his American career for his workplace misconduct and forced to find a job elsewhere, in Russia. However, when he left was never mentioned. So it makes sense that they continue to show the decline of his career HIMYF.
Now, with Alexis Denisof reprising his role as Sandy Rivers HIMYF, he revealed he was demoted to entertainment beat at WWN over some “unproven allegations”. EP Isaac Aptaker then clarified the reporter’s job with TVLine, explaining how the host’s story makes sense for both shows:
He is [still] on the way down. The original show was ahead of its time when it canceled Sandy.
Since it was never specified when Sandy went to Russia, there was HIMYF a chance to advance him and even continue his inevitable downfall. Whether he keeps showing up or not How I met your father So that we can see his career taking off, co-creator Elizabeth Berger said it’s “probably” going to happen if the opportunity arises. With Denisof having no current or upcoming projects, it seems likely that we’ll see Sandy Rivers again at some point.
Alexis Denisof is not the first HIMYM cameo in this Hulu spin-off, and it probably won’t be the last. The season premiere saw a surprise return of Barney Stinson from Neil Patrick Harris, who previously shared his hopes for the reboot and wanted it to last. Josh Radnor and Hilary Duff have also both opened up about the exchange they shared on how i met your father, and the possibility of Radnor reprising his role as Ted Mosby. It was a blast seeing all of these cameos, and with Denisof and many other OGs already returning, I expect we’ll see more How I Met Your Mother cameos throughout the rest of the season.
how i met your father has received an oversized episode order for season two, meaning familiar faces have more chances to return, assuming the plot makes sense. Whether it’s a full-fledged cameo, like NPH and Alexis Denisof, or renting an apartment that fans will recognize all too well, I can’t wait to see how the world unfolds How I Met Your Mother intertwines with HIMYF.
