Kyrgios proves critics wrong: Earns Top 5 spot in latest UTR Rankings
Nick Kyrgios has been making waves in the tennis world for quite some time and his efforts have been rewarded by the UTR rankings despite his struggle with an injury.
Kyrgios has always been a crowd pleaser and in 2022 he showed why when he reached the Wimbledon final. However, in the current UTR rankings, the Australian tennis star has proven that he is not only a showman but also a force to be reckoned with on the court.
The Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) system is a global tennis player rating system that aims to provide an objective, consistent and accurate index of players’ ability in the game of tennis. It rates all players on a single 16-point scale.
In the latest ranking, Kyrgios ranks fifth with a UTR rating of 16.06. Kyrgios’ rise in the UTR rankings comes as no surprise given his impressive performance in 2022. The Australian tennis star reached the Wimbledon final where he put up a brave fight against current world number one Novak Djokovic. He also had a good run in other tournaments, which helped him secure a place in the top 5 of the UTR rankings.
At the top of the rankings is none other than Novak Djokovic with a UTR rating of 16.38. The Serbian tennis player has been in brilliant form in recent years, winning multiple Grand Slam titles and establishing himself as one of the greatest players of all time. At the start of the 2023 season, he won the Australian Open and tied Rafael Nadal with 22 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic is followed by Daniil Medvedev with a UTR rating of 16.23. The Russian tennis player has steadily climbed the rankings in recent years thanks to his consistent performances on the court. In 2023 he won back-to-back titles in Rotterdam and Doha, showing his undeniable qualities.
Next up is Holger Rune, the 19-year-old Danish tennis player who has taken the tennis world by storm in recent years. Rune has a UTR rating of 16.17 and ranks third in the latest rankings. In 2022 he won his first ATP 1000 title in Paris, defeating Novak Djokovic in the final. Rune is now considered one of the brightest prospects in tennis and has a bright future ahead of him.
Felix Auger-Aliassime occupies fourth place in the UTR ranking with a rating of 16.10. The Canadian tennis player has proven to be a consistent performer on the ATP Tour, establishing himself as one of the game’s top players.
