Latest Aaron Rodgers News Is Exactly What Bears Want To Hear
The NFL world is once again being held hostage by Aaron Rodgers as he decides what to do. It’s unbelievable how similar the end of his career has become to Brett Favre. Every off-season was about whether he would quit or come back. People got fed up quickly. It’s happening again with Rodgers. He promised an early solution, but so far nothing has happened. Many consider him the biggest quarterback domino to fall before other decisions are made. Will he stay or will he go?
ESPN’s Adam Schefter appeared on Sportscenter to talk about the topic. Although no decision has been made yet, he made one thing clear. There are two outcomes for this scenario, and neither of them involves him being the Packers’ quarterback again in 2023.
“My feeling is that ultimately it will come down to whether he wants to play somewhere else, which would really be the New York Jets, or whether he wants to retire. To me, these are the two most logical options and the two most likely scenarios.โ
If you are the Chicago Bears, this result is close to ideal. Rodger’s move to the Jets means he won’t end up with a team that finishes in the top 10 of the draft, increasing his trading leverage for the #1 pick. If he retires, the Packers will have plenty of dead caps and no draft picks to trade him.
For a long stretch of his career, many considered him the undisputed greatest of all time. However, opinions have changed in recent years. While his individual success remains undeniable, his inability to get the Packers over the hump to another Super Bowl is beginning to tarnish the luster of his legacy. He won the Super Bowl in 2010. Since then he has reached the NFC Championship four times and lost all four. The last was by far the worst as Green Bay had the best record of the conference and was home.
The following year, Aaron Rodgers lost again at home, this time to Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers. As if that wasn’t bad enough, in January he missed a chance for a playoff spot by losing to Detroit (back at home) 20-16. The last pass he threw was an interception by rookie safety Kerby Joseph. If this is the last image Packers fans will have of him, then it’s awfully fitting. Bear fans will have no sympathy for him. They’re glad to see him go at this point. That he would help her team on the way out would be a bonus.
