Harry Styles possibly part of the reason the latest series of Ted Lasso being so ‘gloomy’
Ted Lasso fans were surprised by the launch of series three as the normally upbeat show seemingly took a sadder turn – and some believe star Jason Sudeikis’ personal life is to blame
The return of Ted Lasso for the third and possibly final series was highly anticipated as fans looked forward to more upbeat content from the famous trainer on AppleTV+.
But as fans tuned in to see what the cheerful American football-turned-football-coach had in store this season, they were faced with a much bleaker prospect.
The normally charming star’s exploits, played by Jason Sudeikis, have captivated viewers for the past few years as he took the reins of fictional London football club AFC Richmond, but many have admitted they tuned out in the third installment due to the unexpected twist in the Script.
Taking to social media, one follower has dubbed the first episode of season 3 “bleak”, but some are speculating if the dejected tone is due to Hollywood star Jason’s off-screen bustle.
The 47-year-old actor is also the writer and executive producer behind the hit series and found his personal life in turmoil at the time of filming when he faced a falling out with his ex Olivia Wilde.
The 39-year-old actress quickly caught up with Harry Styles, and shortly after filming of Ted Lasso season 3 began, Jason delivered custody papers to Olivia while she was on stage in Las Vegas.
Now fans are saying the change in sentiment in the new series could be down to the former One Direction star, with some even thinking there was a reference to the singer in the first episode.
When Ted has a video call with Henry, who is playing with an infinity gauntlet seen in the movies Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, the trainer asks him where he got the toy.
Henry replies that “Jake” gave it to him, adding that Jake is “mommy’s friend”.
Ted is hurt by the confession, and some have speculated if the Thanos Gauntlet is a reference to Harry, who made his Marvel debut in a post-credits scene from Eternals as Thanos’ brother Starfox.
A source who knows both Jason and Olivia recently told MailOnline: “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out the drama in his personal life could spill over to the site.
“The entire narrative in the new series speaks to the pain of a broken marriage.”
