17 minutes: The opening goal came against the flow of play, but it doesn’t look like it will be the only goal of the game. Newcastle threaten any attack and the Gunners also have plenty of firepower.

14 minutes: Arsenal leads! They were under pressure but a free kick allows them to put men on the field. Dan Burn clears the first ball but the Gunners manage to recycle it.

Bukayo Saka can’t find a way into the penalty area from the right and sends it inside where the ball goes to Martin Odegaard.

Odegaard is about 20 meters away and lets fly with his left foot. The shot flies through a defender’s legs, meaning Nick Pope sees it late. He jumps to the left but can’t reach the ball as it nestles in the bottom corner!

12 mins: It took a few minutes before the decision not to award the penalty was made, which should have reassured Arsenal a bit. Newcastle have already had two or three big chances and look hungry for more.

6 mins: Arsenal are looking to exert some control of the game through Jorginho, confident in possession. He orchestrates defense to send the ball to the right wing, where Bukayo Saka tries to weave around Dan Burn and is fouled in the process.

The home fans make a lot of noise. They like the aggressive start Newcastle have made.

4 mins: Newcastle started as the more electric and aggressive team. They bully Arsenal off the ball and fly across the field at full speed.

The Gunners just have to weather this early storm.
