Liverpool transfer news latest as Mount and Mac Allister targeted in 2023 summer window
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will be handed a sizeable transfer budget this summer to work with to revitalize the Reds squad for the 2023/24 season.
The combined departures from James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain And Naby Keita will leave gaps elsewhere alongside reinforcements for Klopp that need to be filled.
Liverpool have fallen behind in their top-four challenge and Klopp faces a battle for key signings without the appeal of Champions League football at Anfield.
However, the Germany coach remains positive on the situation and is likely to target players currently playing in the Premier League.

Klopp is ready for Mount Chelsea
Klopp has already confirmed Liverpool won’t bet on longtime target Jude Bellingham this summer due to an escalating bidding war with Borussia Dortmund.
That will likely prompt Klopp to seek midfield upgrades in the local area, with Chelsea’s Mason Mount a somewhat surprising target, but Liverpool are keen on the England star.
Mount has established himself as a fan favorite at youth club Chelsea, rising through the club’s youth departments to become a first-team regular.
However, the 24-year-old is unsettled by the lack of clarity over who will be Chelsea’s new manager and he is currently unwilling to commit to a rumored seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
According to reports from local magazine Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are working on a potential £45million/$56million deal, but The Athletic’s transfer expert David Ornstein has hinted Arsenal will challenge him.
World Cup star wanted at Anfield Road
Klopp’s other target in midfield is Alexis Mac Allister, Brighton & Hove Albion world champion in 2022, who has played an impressive 12 months for the Argentine.
Despite Brighton finishing the season just behind Liverpool and both teams qualifying for Europe, Mac Allister has not hidden his desire to play for a more prestigious club.
Since arriving in the top flight, Brighton have had a reputation for nurturing Premier League talent and securing maximum transfer fees.
Chief Executive Tony Bloom has indicated there is already interest in Mac Allister but he is ready to play the long-term game for the 24-year-old’s future.
“We know there will be many clubs, not just in this country but across Europe, who want him to play for them,” he said. “But right now he’s wearing blue and white stripes and I’m really happy about that.”
Bloom is open to selling Mac Allister as he wants to keep Mosies Caicedo and Evan Ferguson at AMEX Stadium and he could be pushing for a £42m/$48m transfer fee, with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claiming Liverpool want closed the deal by early June.
Van Dijk’s “successor” highlighted
Defensive lynchpin Virgil van Dijk was a key voice in claiming that Liverpool can still attract top talent to Anfield despite their muted performance in the 2022/23 season.
The Netherlands international remains Klopp’s first choice but his centre-back partner has changed, with Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate struggling against.
Joe Gomez appears to have slipped further down the pecking order and with Matip not a long-term solution Klopp needs another option alongside the developing Konate.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, Liverpool have joined Chelsea and Arsenal in stalking Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.
The England international has been quiet and effective in the Eagles’ back line this season but the rumored £50m/$57.5m price tag could be a problem unless Klopp can sack a few squad players.
Liverpool transfer rumors and reports
Midfield is a key area for Klopp to be renewed despite calls to move Trent Alexander-Arnold to the engine room, with the combined experience of Milner and Firmino also a key loss.
Klopp has always tried to present Liverpool as the perfect setting for the players to take the next step and he will look to continue that pattern in 2023.
