Tina Turner dead: Latest news and tributes after Simply the Best singer dies aged 83

Tina Turner’s cause of death was revealed a day after she passed away “peacefully” after “a long illness”.

On Thursday (May 25th) the Daily Mail confirmed the legendary singer died of natural causes at her home in Switzerland. She was 83.

Former US President Barack Obama has paid tribute to the late Tina Turner.

“Tina Turner was raw. She was powerful. She was unstoppable. And she was uncompromisingly herself – she spoke and sang her truth through joy and pain; Triumph and tragedy,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Today we join fans around the world in honoring the queen of rock and roll and a star whose light will never fade.”

Kelly Clarkson paid tribute to the late Tina Turner by singing a rendition of “What’s Love Got to Do with It” on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday (May 24).

Tina Turner was a survivor.

During her marriage to Ike Turner, she suffered horrific physical, sexual, and psychological abuse.

Turner met her future husband in the late 1950s at the age of 17 and soon after began recording with him as Ike & Tina Turner Revue.

She later revealed this in her memoirs me, tina that Ike’s abuse began almost as soon as they met.

He “threw hot coffee in her face, choked her or hit her until her eyes swelled, and then raped her,” she wrote in her memoir.

She finally left him in 1976 before establishing herself as one of the great solo artists of the 80’s and 90’s.

Ike Turner died in 2007 at the age of 76.

Christina Aguilera has expressed her sadness at the death of Tina Turner.

“I am deeply saddened by the loss of Tina Turner,” she wrote on Twitter. “Her powerful voice and strength will forever be etched in our hearts and memories.

“She paved the way for so many of us in the music industry and her legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”

In 1995, Tina Turner recorded one of her best-known songs, the title theme for Gold eyePierce Brosnan’s first appearance as 007 Agent Bond.

However, Turner almost wasn’t the voice of “GoldenEye” after originally turning down a “really crude” demo sent to her by the track’s songwriters Bono and The Edge of U2.

“With that song, I didn’t even know what key to practice it in,” the singer recalled in 2018

In 1993, Tina Turner moved to Switzerland with her longtime partner, the music producer Erwin Bach.

She later renounced her U.S. citizenship in favor of Swiss citizenship shortly after her marriage to Bach in 2013.

Tina Turner had four children and leaves two.

Her eldest son, Craig Turner, whom she shared with saxophonist Raymond Hill, died by suicide in 2018 at the age of 59.

She had one biological son, Ronnie Turner, with her ex-husband, Ike Turner. Ronnie died in December 2022 at the age of 62, months before Turner’s death.

The “What’s Love Got to Do with It” singer is survived by Ike’s two adopted sons: Ike Jr., 65, and Michael, 65.
