French Open LIVE: Latest tennis scores and updates from Roland Garros as Ons Jabeur and Casper Ruud in action
Djokovic: “Thanks to Aleks…he will go far” – after beating Kovacevic at the French Open
The French Open continues at Roland Garros as some heavyweights and much-loved stars step onto the clay for the first time, including women’s No. 1 Iga Swiatek and No. 6 seed Coco Gauff.
In men’s singles, Casper Ruud and Holger Rune start their seasons just outside the big favorites but certainly players capable of causing an upset along the way.
On Monday, Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie started with first-round wins at Roland Garros, while home favorite and No. 5 seed Caroline Garcia got off to a winning start in women’s singles.

Ons Jabeur 5-4 Lucia Bronzetti
Right, we’re leaving our Nordic friends there for the time being and Casper Ruud has a firm advantage because things are getting tighter at Philippe-Chatrier. After that hot start, Ons Jabeur have now lost their last three games, preferring to let Lucia Bronzetti back into the set.
It’s 5-4 as the players resume their seats, although Jabeur will serve for the set.

Casper Ruud wins the second set
But not for long! Two more Ymer errors and it’s a replay of the first set, Ruud leading 6-4, 6-4 and perhaps just beginning to contemplate his plans for the afternoon.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 5-3 Elias Ymer
Elias Ymer spasms to create space as he tries to knock Casper Ruud out of the point at 30:00 and give up a set point. Ruud misses that opportunity, and then again after a double fault from Ymer. The Swede keeps fighting.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 5-3 Elias Ymer
A good reset from Casper Ruud in the eighth game of the second set, which defused Ymer’s comeback with some decent work in the exchanges from the pair who stayed clean.

Ons Jabeur got off to a strong start
So much for Ons Jabeur, who may face a first-round test – the Tunisian is showing off her full range of shots (including that incredible baseline backhand drop shot) and is looking very impressive so far, with a 5-1 lead against Lucia Bronzetti without too much fuss.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 4-3 Elias Ymer
That was good in the last two games of qualifiers, he started hitting with a bit more bite and grunted after almost every shot. Ruud makes a few positional errors, opens up inviting angles, and challenges Ymer to obedience.
Hold is confirmed with a crisp ace in the middle.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 4-2 Elias Ymer
Elias Ymer gets his first taste of the game in a service game from Casper Ruud when the Norwegian launches a forehand that never quite catches and misses by a yard or two. Can Ymer take his chance? Yes! A good bit of tennis, surviving Ruud’s shots and then throwing a clean backhand over the line after luring the Norwegian into the net with a flat slice. Ymer breaks back.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 4-1 Elias Ymer
A second break of the second set for Casper Ruud who, with a little more torque on his forehand, started to put even pressure on Ymer.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 3-1 Elias Ymer
Ruud extends his lead again and wins the longest rally of the game (21 shots) to close a 15:30 deficit without too much trouble. He still hasn’t reached a breakpoint.
A few updates from other places on the Roland Garros complex:
On Court Simonne-Mathieu, Diane Parry is approaching the second round – she has a set and a lead over Anhelina Kalinina and another top 30 set in the women looks likely to fall.
Tommy Paul also has a set and a split on Court 6 – he leads Dominic Stricker 6-3, 4-2.

Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-1 Elias Ymer
Elias Ymer gets on the board in the second set and holds the serve confidently. He’s been decent enough so far, the Swedish qualifier, but he just doesn’t have the weapons to really make a mess of Ruud and struggled early on to capitalize on his opponent’s mistakes to raise doubts with the Norwegian permit.
Still, he will keep fighting and won’t reveal too many weaknesses.
