Who is at Computex 2023?
Computex is packed with big companies and big news including Acer, Asus, MSI and Gigabyte. In the meantime, Samsung might not be overtly present, but we’re seeing the company’s OLED display technology making its way into countless different devices.
Additionally, AI is leading the way across Taipei – especially with the keynote from Nvidia and Arm making some big announcements in the space.
Acer at Computex 2023
Acer introduced two new laptops at Computex, both of which are absolute beauties.
We’ll start with the refined Gamer option in the Predator Triton 16that got its 13th Gen Intel and RTX 4070 glory this year—all in a thin 0.78-inch bezel.
And secondly, it is the eye-catcher of a new one Acer Swift Edge 16which includes the latest AMD Ryzen 7040U series chipsets (proven Apple silicon killers), a beautiful OLED panel with 120Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 color space coverage, and many more ports for versatility.
Adata (and XPG) at Computex 2023
You may know the Adata and XPG brands as a company that sells you SSDs for your PC builds. However, the company uses its roots in component manufacturing and builds its own gaming laptops.
That includes the Xenia 15G – a purposeful frame that packs plenty of power under the hood, including the 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13700H CPU, RTX 4070 GPU, up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB -SSD.
There’s something else we can’t talk about right now… But that’s another time!
Asus at Computex 2023
Asus was busy. There are numerous updates to the Zenbook and Vivobook ranges, as well as some new additions to the ROG family such as the PG49WCD ultra-wide OLED gaming monitor.
But the big news here is Asus’ big business push – courtesy of the ExpertBook B5 OLED and ExpertBook B9 OLED. With the latest 13th Gen Intel CPUs and gorgeous OLED displays (the 14-inch display with 2.8K resolution and the 16-inch B5 with full 4K resolution), this spec sheet makes the weight all the more startling.
Guess how much they weigh… No, you’re wrong. The 14-inch B9 weighs just 2.1 pounds, and the B5 is the world’s lightest 16-inch business notebook at just over 3 pounds.
Gigabytes at Computex 2023
Gigabyte took the opportunity at Computex to refresh a large part of its laptop range with the latest components. This includes the integration of RTX 40 series GPUs into the AORUS 17X laptop with next-gen thermal management AERO 16 OLED with a new CNC machined chassis and the brand new AORUS 16.
The latter features a larger display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, but one of the coolest aspects is the use of gallium nitride in the manufacture of the power brick. I know this sounds a bit disappointing, but it means you can significantly reduce the size of this power brick while improving energy efficiency.
Nvidia at Computex 2023
Nvidia is in an advantageous position in the AI competition and the company has certainly reinforced this with its keynote announcements. Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has made some amazing announcements beyond the stock news, such as the RTX 4060 Ti will be produced in “bulk quantities”.
- Huang announced the Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE), which breathes new life into in-game NPCs when it comes to interacting with players. It uses an adaptive AI model (pre-trained by Nvidia) to greatly increase the number of possible interactions.
- Nvidia makes its own CPU. Technically, Huang describes it as “a computer, not a chip,” but this Arm-based superchip is now in full production. With the ability to expand its performance up to 144TB of GPU memory, the GH200 Grace Hopper will become the heart of AI ambitions for many organizations.
MSI at Computex 2023
The main news from MSI at Computex was the company’s new partnership with Mercedes-AMG Motorsport – the result was the all-new MSI Stealth 16 with all the AMG qualities.
Normally I’m never a fan of the garish gamer look with so much RGB, but the end result of this partnership was a beautiful laptop with a ton of power (up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9 and RTX 4070).
Samsung at Computex 2023
We’re seeing Samsung Display (technically a different company, but certainly still under the Samsung umbrella) popping up in a lot of places. Most notably, the amazing OLED technology is used in the 16-inch 4K panel of the Mercedes MSI gaming device.
Don’t expect any major announcements like a new phone or laptop as these are usually reserved for Samsung’s own events.
