Stray Kids Tie NCT 127 And Seventeen With Their Latest Top 10 Album
South Korean boy band Stray Kids make a triumphant return to the Billboard 200 with their latest album. 5 Stars. The set debuts at number one on the charts, cementing its position as this week’s most consumed release in the United States. With almost a quarter million equivalent units sold, its release also marks one of the biggest album launches of 2023 to date.
Reclaiming the number one spot on the Billboard 200 is Stray Kids’ third top 10 hit on the charts. With this achievement, the band is now one of the most successful South Korean music acts in the history of the Billboard 200.
Stray Kids now shares the honor of having three top 10 charters on the Billboard 200 with three other South Korean groups, notably NCT 127, Seventeen and TXT (aka Tomorrow X Together).
Unsurprisingly, BTS is at the forefront of South Korean artists to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200. The seven-piece powerhouse band has an impressive track record, having secured seven top 10 albums on the charts. Notably, all but one of these releases went straight to the top of the 200 place list.
Sitting between BTS and Stray Kids (along with the three other groups they are currently affiliated with) is Twice, a South Korean girl group. Twice has achieved top 10 success on the Billboard 200 with four separate projects, and yet they haven’t secured number one.
Before the success of 5 Stars, Stray Kids shared the same standing as several other popular K-pop favorites, each with two Top 10 albums. With their recent success, they have now left Ateez, Blackpink and SuperM behind. Notably, South Korean bandmate Enhypen also landed his second top 10 hit this week, coinciding with Stray Kids’ performance.
