US Open 2023 LIVE stream: Leaderboard and latest updates from round one at Los Angeles Country Club

PGA players feel cheated by LIV merger

California hosts the third major of the golf year as a strong field heads to the Los Angeles Country Club golf course for the 2023 US Open this week.

It is the first time the US Open has been hosted in the city in 75 years, with the LA Country Club hosting the event for the first time. A challenging layout is expected for players as low scores are unlikely as the California golf course aims to test the competitors in four challenging rounds.

Brooks Koepka is among the favorites looking to defend his US PGA Championship win but will face stiff competition from the likes of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Masters Champion Jon Rahm. Rory McIlroy must not be left out, while Matt Fitzpatrick hopes to put on his best golf game in the defense of his US Open title.

The unexpected news of a merger between the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series and the PGA Tour only heightens anticipation, although it will be a while before the full implications of the merger are realized.

Jacob Solomon Makes Four-Under!

The 26-year-old American takes the solo lead with a wonderful birdie on the 15th. He has three holes left on his round today and will not be far from the top of the leaderboard if he avoids bogeys.

Jon Rahm zigzagged around the track this lap and bombed out of the rough to save himself. A nice recovery to the 17th green gives him a chance to save par, but he just slips on the left edge and the shot is lost.

Max Homa hopes for a “carnage” and a “typical” US Open challenge

Max Homa is hoping for a ‘carnage’ at the 123rd US Open to ensure his course record stays permanently intact.

Homa shot a stunning nine-under-par 61 club at the Los Angeles Country Club on his way to winning the prestigious Pac-12 title in 2013, a tournament also attended by two-time Major winner Jon Rahm.

To no one’s surprise, Rahm predicted on Tuesday that typical US Open conditions would mean there would be no repeat of Homa’s exploits this week, with Branden Grace’s major record of 62 in the men also looking safe.

Rickie Fowler makes it look easy. He rolls his birdie putt home on the 18th green (his ninth hole) and scores a three-under after the first half of his round.

Over on the front nine, Max Homa is making moves. A birdie on the eight puts him at -2 before sliding another birdie putt over the right rim on the ninth.

Jon Rahm gets his round back on track by throwing in a 20-foot throw for a birdie on the short 15th minute to get back under par. His playing partner Viktor Hovland, who is only two points above par with his birdie putt, is also a source of joy.

You both play alongside Xander Schauffele, one of the leaders who keeps things looking easy out there.

He is making his seventh US Open appearance with no missed cuts and six top-15 finishes.
