Derek Jeter ‘MLB on Fox’ schedule: Why Yankees great’s broadcast appearances are rare in 2023

Fox’s Super Bowl 57 coverage produced a major baseball announcement: Derek Jeter would be joining the network as an in-studio MLB analyst.

The Hall of Famer brings another prominent name to Fox alongside former teammate Alex Rodriguez and former AL East rival David Ortiz, creating what the network hopes will be the baseball version of TNT’s “Inside the NBA” crew.

However, fans won’t see much of Jeter until October. Jeter has a limited regular season schedule before taking on more postseason duties. While Jeter will be in the studio covering Fox’s London Series in June, it will be a rare opportunity for the Yankees to get some work done before the postseason.

Here’s when you can see Jeter on Fox and why his appearances will be limited during the regular season.

Derek Jeter ‘MLB on Fox’ schedule

Jeter’s MLB on Fox schedule is pretty straightforward this season. He will make his Fox debut during the MLB London Series between the Cardinals and Cubs, which will be televised on Fox.

A few weeks later, Jeter will be present at Fox’s coverage of the 2023 All-Star Game. Fox isn’t broadcasting the home run derby, so it will be another one-night appearance for the Yankees legend.

Here’s a full rundown of the three events Jeter will cover on MLB on Fox.

  • MLB London Series
  • MLB All Star Game
  • Post-season reporting

Jeter’s role is expected to expand in October and possibly November.

Although it is unknown if he will be in the studio every night in the postseason, Fox runs the Division Series, a League Championship Series and the World Series. The Wild Card Series was exclusive to ESPN last season. So if that structure stays the same, Jeter and Fox won’t begin their coverage until a few days after the playoffs begin.

Regardless of the exact plan, Jeter won’t have many opportunities to familiarize himself with Fox’s studio setup before the lights come on in October.

Why Derek Jeter’s ‘MLB on Fox’ appearances will be rare

Jeter hasn’t revealed why his MLB on Fox program will be so tight in his debut season, but it seems the Hall of Famer is enjoying family life for the moment.

Jeter and his wife Hannah have four children, all under the age of six, including an infant son who was born in May. Raising four young children takes up a village, so Jeter probably wouldn’t be able to commit to a weekly role on Fox. That does, however, raise the question of whether he could land a more regular role in 2024 or beyond if this year’s audition goes smoothly.

The five-time World Series winner stepped down from his role as CEO of the Marlins ahead of the 2022 season, opening up opportunities like these for him.
