Gold Cup quarterfinals 2023 schedule, matches, and teams qualified as Mexico, USA vie for CONCACAF title

With the group stage over, the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2023 is heading into the knockout stages with the final eight teams remaining.

The USA and Mexico both won their respective groups and are through to the quarterfinals, while Canada progressed to runners-up after winning the last group game.

Sporting News brings you the full update on the current status of the knockout rounds and what the quarter-finals will look like once the spots are taken.

Gold Cup Quarterfinals 2023

The first two quarterfinals will take place on Saturday, July 8th AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The other quarterfinal doubleheader on Sunday 9 July will take place at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The teams have qualified for the Quarterfinals of the Gold Cup 2023

Only the top two teams in groups AD advance to the quarterfinals. The groups are formed like this:

The USA And Jamaica are confirmed as A1 and A2, and Mexico And Qatar are through as B1 or B2. Guatemala And Canada were the top two in Group D Panama And Costa Rica advance as the top two representatives of Group C.

If the teams are tied, the The first tiebreaker is goal differencefollowed by the highest number of goals scored according to the Official Tournament Rules (page 25).

  3. Highest score only in matches between tied teams;
  4. goal difference only in matches between tied teams;
  5. Most goals were scored only in matches between tied teams;
  6. Fewest disciplinary points in all group games (yellow/red cards);
  7. Random drawing.

Group A

  • 1: USA (7 pts, +12 GD)
  • 2nd: Jamaica (7 pts, +8 GD)

The United States qualified as the top team in this group thanks to a +12 goal difference to Jamaica’s +8. The Americans will play Group D runners-up (Canada) in the final quarterfinals. Jamaica advance and take first place from the same group (Guatemala).

Group B

  • 1: Mexico (6 pts, +5 GD)
  • 2nd: Qatar (4 pts, 0 GD)

Mexico lost their last game against Qatar 1-0 but that didn’t cost them first place in Group B after Haiti lost to Honduras. Qatar used the win to edge Honduras into second place on goal difference (0 to -3).

Group C

  • 1: Panama (7 pts, +2 GD)
  • 2nd: Costa Rica (4 pts, +1 GD)

Panama Their last game of the group stage drew 2-2 with El Salvador but they retained the top position in the group. Costa Rica defeated Martinique in a decisive 6-4 win to take second place and advance to the quarterfinals.

Group D

  • 1: Guatemala (7 points)
  • 2nd: Canada (5 points)

Canada clinched the win they needed to overtake Guadeloupe in the standings in their final group match against bottom-placed Cuba after the French territory lost to eventual group winners in a wild final Guatemala. A late save from penalties by Nicholas Hagen sealed Guatemala’s 3-2 victory.

Gold Cup Quarterfinals schedule

Once the group stage is over, the knockout stages begin with the quarter-finals. The entire knockout round is a single-elimination tournament, with the winner being determined on the day.

With USA and Mexico winning their group, the two giants can only meet in a final.

  • Quarter finals: Sat, July 8th and Sun, July 9th
  • Semifinals: Wed, July 12
  • Final: Sun, July 16th

The semi-final takes place SnapDragon Stadium (San Diego, California) and at Allegiant Stadium (Las Vegas, Nevada), but CONCACAF will only decide which venue to host each semi-final after the group stage.

One game starts at 7:30pm ET and the other at 10:30pm ET.
