Best and worst MLB All-Star Red Carpet outfits, from Shohei Ohtani and Julio Rodriguez to Raymond
Diamonds danced on Tuesday afternoon as MLB’s best and brightest entered Pike Place Market for the 2023 MLB All-Star Red Carpet Show.
Baseball’s finest were decked out in the most elegant finery, many of which paid homage to the city of Seattle, which hosted this year’s All-Star celebrations.
It wouldn’t be a real party without seizures. And the masses had to be satisfied with the selection on display; It seemed like the players detailed their approach to this year’s gala in great detail. Normally enmeshed in the rigors of baseball customs, these men broadened their horizons and many opted for bright, vibrant colors. Some have even sported jewelry, further testament to the rapidly increasing marketability of the American game.
Not every step was worth it. But it wasn’t about trying.
FAGAN: The angels have failed Shohei Ohtani. They shouldn’t let their fans down either.
Without further ado, The Sporting News fills you in on who dripped and who drowned in the introduction to this year’s all-star extravaganza.
Best and Worst MLB All-Star Red Carpet Outfits
Shhei Ohtani
To quote Jay-Z, Shohei Ohtani is a business, man, not a businessman. He’ll surely get paid like one in the winter. Still, the Angels’ unicorn is a paragon of grace and composure on and off the field.
Case in point: his suit on the red carpet. Ohtani is a Japanese icon. But he seemed to stop in Italian comfort, strutting through the flood of fans and reporters that surrounded him without a strand of hair slipping.
His trousers were perfectly tailored, his shoes reflected the brilliance of his future. He accentuated his mammoth figure with a classy black tie and left a stripe through his suit jacket to show us just how far he’s come. Ohtani used to come to these events with t-shirts. Now he wears brands you probably can’t even pronounce. A good time indeed.

Adley Rutschman
The Orioles got a goaltender inrutschman. Because he’s not only a gifted hitter -rutschman has an eye that would bring tears to the eyes of a cyclops – he also always gets the job.

Baltimore’s catcher tends to get chased in the shackles of his gear as he crouches behind the plate. This time, however, that wasn’t the case. And released from the bondage of his armor, rutschman looked better afterwards; The 25-year-old wore a glittering rose gold dress. There are extra points for the shade that perfectly matches that of his guests, his beloved mother and sister. He’s not just a ball player. He’s also a family man.
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (and his sons)
Winning anything – a world title, liberation from the scourge of colonial oppression, even a game of rock, paper, scissors – requires creativity. You must conjure up a world that is radically different from the world around you.
The Gurriels are a shining example of this. At first glance, the outfit may seem overwhelming. The pattern is strong, even a little startling, depending on your point of view. But just through the fog one can see the vision of the Gurriel family. Two generations of Gurriels, each smartly dressed in matching outfits. Even down to the Gucci shoes. Family love is a beautiful thing, man. And if you need an example of that, just look at Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and his drained children.

Julio Rodriguez
Julio Rodriguez is a young, cheeky Seattle midfielder who knows how to hit home runs and steal them. He is carved from a certain wood. And much like his spiritual predecessor, Ken Griffey Jr., Rodriguez makes sure to do his thing in style.
His red carpet look might seem unremarkable at first. However, a closer look reveals how elaborately Rodriguez and his team wanted to design his outfit. First, it’s textured, an underappreciated element in any good outfit. Summer shirts are cool. But summer shirts with a seductive, rough feel? this is fire

Second, check out his ice cream. Rodriguez’ jewelry play is simply flawless, topped with a shimmering chain studded with all sorts of crazy gemstones. The pendant prominently features his logo, another example of his growing prominence in the league. And he did it all while donning that friendly J-Rod smile that has been melting the hearts of fans across the Pacific Northwest.
Rodriguez walks on the shoulders of his idols. And given the way he’s able to perform both on and off the diamond, we can just say he’s doing a pretty good job.
Greg Amsinger
Special mention to the reporters by the way. MLB Network came into play, with each on-site interviewer tied into numbers that perfectly reflected their on-air personalities. But Amsinger went one step further.
As a tribute to the Mariners, Amsinger made sure to wear shades of teal and navy under his cream suit jacket. He then took it a step further and topped his outfit with the back-facing cap a la Griffey.

It’s the little things that count. And if you go to Seattle with your cap inverted and pay homage to one of the city’s favorite sons, you’ll gain some influence. We hope a fan buys him a mug of locusts for his efforts.
Zac Gallen
Zac Gallen is undeniably cool. He throws darts and regularly touches the top 90s with a devastating fastball. When that doesn’t work for him, Gallen resorts to Enigma: his pitch mix consists of a cutter that looks like his four-seamer and a changeup with a trajectory eerily similar to his curveball. All this means that Gallen has a lot to offer.
But its fit? Not as much. The starter to the NL All-Star Game is scrawled in Gucci, which many of us can’t tell. But in this author’s humble opinion, it’s a little boring. Wearing brands just to wear them might seem cool. But fashion is about putting it on the line. And Gallen isn’t really up for it with his choice of understated luxury clothing.
But no worry. He will get another chance to shine on the hill.

Raymond
Both furry and phenomenon, Raymond – the mascot of the Tampa Bay Rays – has earned a solid reputation in central Florida. He’s a big, blue bunch of friends who helped bring life to the mausoleum at Tropicana Field while supporting one of baseball’s finest teams. what a guy
But fashion is not about feelings. It’s about material results. And while Raymond’s goofy smile might knock fans out of their seats in the trop, expectations are different on the red carpet.
Raymond appeared in his everyday clothes for the celebrations on Tuesday. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. But it would have been nice to see him appreciate the Emerald City if he had the chance. Bring at least some Starbucks to the game or something.
He gets bonus points for performing moves like a Soul Train participant. But his outfit just leaves a bit to be desired. And that’s sad to see when there’s so much joy.
