And for Wolff, Borrell’s arrival means the freedom to focus fully on the week-to-week as a coach, rather than taking on dual duties as assistant sporting director. That could be of increasing value as Austin FC continues to climb the Western Conference rankings after notching up three wins in four games recently.

While Borrell, fresh off the plane from England, is unlikely to be directly involved in the ongoing negotiations for the current July transfer window, he is the club’s CEO and majority owner Anthony Precourt believes Borrell’s long-term influence could be game changer for a club looking to make their mark in an ever-evolving league.

“The coaches he’s been with, the players he’s been with, the experience he’s had over 28 years at three big clubs – all that wealth of experience and knowledge will make us all better,” Precourt said.
