The CFL is coming to the Maritimes. 

This weekend, the 2023 Touchdown Atlantic series comes to Halifax, as the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Toronto Argonauts get set to partake in one of the CFL’s premier events of the season. 

The two squads are set to partake in a rematch of the 2022 Touchdown Atlantic. Last year, the Argos beat the Roughriders at the game played in Wolfville, N.S.

What is Touchdown Atlantic?

Touchdown Atlantic is a series of CFL games that are hosted in the Maritime provinces, either Nova Scotia or New Brunswick. 

The first event was held back in 2005 as a preseason game. There were three Touchdown Atlantic contests in between 2010 and 2013 before the CFL went away with the event from 2014 to 2018. However, the series was revived in 2019 when interest in an Atlantic expansion team increased. 

The game is held at a neutral site, and the two participants have changed throughout the years. 

When is the 2023 Touchdown Atlantic?

  • Time: 4 p.m. ET | 5 p.m. AT

This year’s Touchdown Atlantic game is scheduled for Saturday, July 29. 

Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. local time from Halifax, N.S.

Where is the 2023 Touchdown Atlantic?

The 2023 edition of Touchdown Atlantic is heading to Halifax, N.S., as the event will be held at the Huskies Stadium at Saint Mary’s University for the second consecutive year. 

Huskies Stadium was the site of the first iteration of Touchdown Atlantic when Hamilton and Toronto played a preseason game in Halifax in 2005. 

Saskatchewan and Toronto previously were scheduled to play a 2020 Touchdown Atlantic game at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, however, the event was canceled, along with the entire season, due to COVID-19. 

Touchdown Atlantic history

In total, there have been six Touchdown Atlantic games played, with the 2023 edition set to be the seventh in its history. 

Out of the previous six contests, five have been held during the regular season, while the inaugural one was a preseason match. 

Halifax, Wolfville, N.S. and Moncton, N.B. have been the only locations used for the series.
