Everton Close to Signing Sporting Lisbon Teenage Striker Youssef Chermiti
Sport
Everton Football Club is on the verge of finalizing a deal to secure the services of talented teenage striker Youssef Chermiti from Sporting Lisbon. The 19-year-old Portugal youth international made a breakthrough at Sporting last season, impressing with three league goals in 21 appearances across different competitions.
Everton will face Sporting at Goodison Park in their final pre-season friendly on Saturday, with the kick-off scheduled for 15:00 BST. This potential signing comes after manager Sean Dyche expressed his club’s determination to strengthen their squad through new acquisitions. Despite missing out on some transfer targets this summer, Everton managed to sign full-back Ashley Young from Aston Villa and loan winger Arnaut Danjuma from Villareal.
According to a report by Bbc.co.uk, sources indicate that Everton and Sporting are currently in talks regarding a potential transfer fee of €15 million (£12.9 million). Sporting will also retain 10% of any future fee involving the player. This signing addresses a clear requirement for Everton, who narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of last season with a 1-0 victory over Bournemouth. Throughout the campaign, Everton struggled to find the back of the net, scoring only 34 goals in 38 league games.
Everton’s current strike force faced several challenges, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin struggling with injuries and managing only two goals in the entire season. Fellow striker Neal Maupay has also been struggling with his form, scoring only once in his last 40 league and cup appearances. This imminent signing of Youssef Chermiti brings hope for a much-needed boost in Everton’s attacking prowess.
It is worth noting that other clubs had shown interest in Chermiti as well. Wolves reportedly sent scouts to watch him play for Sporting against Belgian side Genk this summer, while Bournemouth also expressed interest in acquiring the young talent.
