Adidas Headphones Announces Self-Charging Wireless Headphones

Following last week’s announcement of the Urbanista Phoenix earphones, which use photosensitive Powefoyle film to charge their built-in batteries, sports brand adidas and Zound Industries have announced the all-new RPT-02 SOL headphones. These are adidas’ first wireless Bluetooth headphones to feature a solar charging panel.

The new adidas RPT-02 SOL headphones are made from recycled plastic and feature innovative technology that converts any light source into electrical energy. Developed in collaboration with Stockholm-based Zound Industries, the RPT-02 SOL wireless headphones are the latest model in the adidas headphone range to be self-charging. These sports headphones are designed to withstand the harsh and blustery conditions of almost every sporting activity and lifestyle.

The adidas RPT-02 SOL has a headband made from a breakthrough lightweight cellular material called Powerfoyle. The headband harvests energy from both natural and artificial light sources, giving the headphones endless playtime and the ability to charge on the go without wires. Users can rely on light to boost their performance.

New and notable features of the adidas RPT-02 SOL include controls that allow the user to control the volume and easily skip tracks. The headphones also come with a light indicator on the headband that helps identify the strongest light for the best charge.

adidas headphone app allows users to track headphone charge level and battery status in real-time. The design is sweat and splash resistant with an IPX4 rating, making it ideal for resisting the sweat that comes with intense exercise.

“Light has always been a positive source of energy for people and now we can rely on it to power headphones,” says Anders Olsson, product manager at Zound Industries. “It’s important that we continue to innovate best in class and push the boundaries of wearable technology. Developing the adidas RPT-02 SOL allows us to push those limits and keep the music going so athletes can focus on their performance without worrying about a dead battery.”

Prices & Availability: The adidas RPT-02 SOL wireless headphones will be available from August 23, retailing at $229 / £199.95 / €229.
