AM Best to Present Captive Trend Analysis at 2022 Asian Captive Conference

SINGAPORE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–am the best will attend the annual Asian Captive Conference to be held on Thursday, August 18, 2022 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Rob Curtis, AM Best’s Managing Director of Market Development for Asia Pacific, will give a presentation entitled “A Closer Look at Global Trends in Captive Insurance” at the 9:25 am MYT event. Globally, commercial insurance rate increases have prompted an uptick in new captive formations, with greater use of existing captives, particularly as the industry responds to losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic. The presentation focuses on these trends and other important topics. AM Best evaluates more than 200 alternative risk transfer units including single parent and group inmates, risk retention groups (RRGs) and sheltered cell inmates across a range of domiciles.

Curtis will also participate in a panel entitled “Captive Developments in Asia” to discuss what captive insurance industry attendees see across the industry, including emerging risks and regulatory developments, as well as key growth industries for potential captive formations. The panel discussion will take place at 10:55 am (MYT).

Co-hosted by Labuan International Insurance Association and Labuan International Business and Financial Centre, the Asian Captive Conference is dedicated to the development of self-insurance in the region. This year’s conference, themed ‘Embracing Change and Accelerating Growth: The Way Forward for Self-Insurance’, aims to highlight how risk professionals are increasing their use of self-insurance in response to rapidly changing insurance market conditions. Roy Sharma, Chair of the Labuan International Insurance Association, will moderate the Captive Development Panel.

Curtis recently joined AM Best with more than three decades of insurance industry experience and was previously the head of core groups and technical expert teams at the Hong Kong Insurance Authority (IA), responsible for the development of Hong Kong’s new group-wide group oversight and macroprudential frameworks.
