Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic thrash Kilmarnock to go top of Scottish Premiership

Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic have moved away from Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership after a stunning 5-0 win against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

The Hoops’ victory on the road at Rugby Park means they beat Rangers on goal difference, with both Glasgow sides having won their first three league games.

Celtic scored five individual goalscorers, with Kyogo Furuhashi giving the champions a one-goal lead after just seven minutes.

The Hoops had to wait until the 35th minute when Jota’s sweeping thunderbolt extended their lead.

And just before half-time, central defender Moritz Jenz scored three goals with an overhead kick.

Carl Starfelt scored Celtic’s fourth goal in the 75th minute before another overhead kick was scored – this time by Giorgos Giakoumakis.

“We knew that (the pitch) was one of our challenges today, plus it was a hot day to try and play the football we want,” said Postecoglou.

“The attitude of the guys was top notch.

“It was a great start for us. Last week we scored late and said we wanted to wear the teams down. That doesn’t change the fact that we want to start strong and knock out teams early.”

Celtic have scored 10 goals and conceded just one in their first three games, with a 2-0 win over Aberdeen and a 3-1 triumph at Ross County accompanied by a strong Kilmarnock win.

The Hoops are next in the league at home to Hearts on August 21, with the Old Firm derby against Rangers on September 3.
