Apple Watch Ultra: How to Use the Depth App for Underwater Activities

The Apple Watch Ultra has a Depth app that is exclusive to the device. This article tells you what it does and how to use it.

The ‌‌Apple Watch Ultra‌‌ can be used for dives to a depth of 40 meters (130 feet), and the new Depth app for the watch is designed to make the most of underwater recreational activities like snorkeling, underwater pool swimming, and shallow freediving.

The depth app can provide information about water temperature, current depth, maximum depth and the current time.

It’s worth noting that the Depth app isn’t a dive computer like the upcoming Oceanic+ app, so it doesn’t offer any information about decompression stops, gas analysis, or other diving features. So if you’re using it in a situation where failure could result in death or injury, make sure you have a second depth gauge and a timer or watch.

Using the Depth app

By default, the Depth app opens automatically when the Apple Watch Ultra is submerged to a depth of 1 meter or more, or you can manually start a session by opening the app.

When the Depth app is opened, the Water Lock activates to prevent accidental inputs on the screen or with the Digital Crown. So if you do a workout like B. To record open water swimming, open the Workout app and start exercising before submerging your Apple Watch Ultra.

When you’re done, press and hold the Digital Crown to turn off the water lock and end your session. The screen will unlock and a series of tones will play to clear any water residue from the watch speaker.

After your dive, you’ll see a dive summary showing how long you spent underwater, your maximum depth, and the water temperature range you experienced. You can also see the water temperature and depth in a timeline in the Health app, but not the other metrics.

How to disable the depth app autostart feature

  1. start the settings App on your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌.
  2. Tap General and then tap autostart.
  3. Under When Submerged, turn off the switch next to Start app automatically.

How to change the depth app units of measure

  1. start the settings App on your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌.
  2. Beat depth.
  3. Choose Foot or meter for depth and Fahrenheit or Celsius for temperature.

The Depth app works to a maximum depth of 40 meters (130 feet). If you fall below this depth, the screen will turn yellow and some functions of your “Apple Watch Ultra” may no longer work or may only work intermittently.
