Arsenal vs Crystal Palace live score, updates, highlights, lineups and result as Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka score

Arsenal are set for another important step in their bid for a first Premier League title since 2004 when they host a struggling Crystal Palace and have a chance to be eight points clear at the top.

Defending champions Manchester City, currently five points away in second place, were busy in the FA Cup on Saturday, meaning their scheduled league game against West Ham was postponed. Pep Guardiola’s men will watch at home to see if the gap widens.

The scenario looks favorable for the Gunners who face a Palace side who fired their manager and ex-Arsenal star Patrick Vieira on Friday and have not won since December 31. Under-21 team manager Paddy McCarthy will be on the sidelines.

Their 12 winless streak in all competitions has Palace just three points from the drop zone. Of even greater concern to the club’s supporters is that the number of times they have been hidden during that time span (seven) exceeds the total number of goals scored by the club (five).

Halftime: Arsenal 2-0 Crystal Palace

half time: It looked like Crystal Palace were going to give Arsenal a tough time in that game but they hit the post at their best chance and then Arsenal wingers decided the game. Gabriel Martinelli invented a solo game to open the scoring and Bukayo Saka was clever in his movement and finished moments later.

Arsenal is cruising now. A Crystal Palace team that has scored five goals in their last 12 games is unlikely to cause many problems for the rest of this game. The Emirates Stadium is rocking and the second half is supposed to be a party.

43 minutes: Goal Arsenal! This time it’s Bukayo Saka who sneaks into the Palace box behind Wilfried Zaha and takes her home. He made it look too easy.

25 minutes: It was a good start to the game from Crystal Palace and their interim manager Paddy McCarthy. They’ve been pressuring Arsenal and they’ve had their fair share of attacks. This despite the fact that several players are missing.

And shortly thereafter, right winger Michael Olise pursues back to stop a Leandro Trossard attack. A strong demonstration of Olise’s commitment to making this run.

20 minutes: injury arrest. Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell is injured. He looks resigned coming off the field, but he’s back in the game.

18 minutes: Chance Arsenal. Martin Odegaard picks up a loose ball up in Palace’s box and has an effort on goal, but goalkeeper Joe Whitworth stops it. However, Bukayo Saka was ruled offside.

16 minutes: random palace! Odsonne Edouard slipped behind Arsenal’s defense but failed to hit Aaron Ramsdale with his shot. It turned out that Edouard was offside when Jeffrey Schlupp passed the ball, but he was still dangerous.

11 minutes: random palace! Wilfried Zaha makes it 1-1 with Arsenal right-back Ben White and then rips off a shot that hits the left post and bounces off Ramsdale and spills out to the corner. Nothing comes of the set piece.

Arsenal are lucky. That could have bounced off Ramsdale into the net.

10 minutes: Leandro Trossard goes down in the Palace area but it was a half-hearted attempt to take a penalty. This attack was initiated by Zinchenko’s quick throw-in at Gabriel Martinelli.

5 minutes: Arsenal on the forefoot as you would expect. But separate defensive plays from Palace defender Marc Guehi and midfielder Cheick Doucoure neutralized two Arsenal attacks that reached the box.

1st minute: We are away. There is a thin veil of smoke from torches in the stadium.

5 minutes after kick-off: The teams are on the pitch. Kickoff is just moments away.

35 minutes after kick-off: These are the pre-game scenes as you battle for a Premier League title.

45 minutes after kick-off: All eyes will be on whether Rob Holding can do enough to fill in for William Saliba. This compilation is what every Gunners devotee will dread.

120 minutes after kick-off: Arsenal will miss William Saliba for the first time this Premier League season. Reuell Walters, an 18-year-old right-back from Arsenal academy, is reportedly set to take his place in the matchday squad. Walters can play as a central defender in a pinch.
