AstroTurf introduces latest innovation TRIONIC PLUS with three added technologies

AstroTurf has always prided itself on being the innovation leader in the artificial turf industry. Its latest product, TRIONIC PLUS, is another advancement that is the result of years of pre-launch research and development, allowing for optimal long-term integrity and durability.
The TRIONIC PLUS Wonder fiber has three different additional technologies – silver-based Sanitized technology, DualChill heat shield and StatBlock anti-static component. These technologies work together to create a turf that is not only more durable, but also more hygienic, cooler and safer to use.
Sanitized’s silver-based antimicrobial technology helps eliminate odor and provides long-lasting protection. It eliminates bacterial odors and prevents microbial build-up on AstroTurf surface fibers. It offers up to 99% less bacteria.
DualChill’s ability to act as a heat shield strengthens the fibers, making them more resilient and durable over long periods of time. Test results run on the same fiber pack with and without DualChill show that IR reflectivity improves by up to 42% on average and fiber temperature is up to 12 degrees cooler.
New carbon-based anti-static ingredient molecularly bound into facial fibers that inhibits the build-up of static electricity. Antistatic components are used in industry, but AstroTurf brings the first DNA level additive. Tests show up to a 17x reduction in static electricity when StatBlock is incorporated into the artificial grass fibers.

AstroTurf was named 2019 “Innovator of the Year” by the Synthetic Turf Council for developing the blending of polyethylene (PE) and nylon into a single fiber to create TRIONIC fibers.
TRIONIC was an incredible breakthrough, creating a molecular fusion of nylon and polyethylene that is softer, stronger and more durable.
The secret lies in the compatibilizers. These compounds encase the nylon polymers suspended in the PE to strengthen the fiber. These compatibilizers have an affinity for both PE and nylon. They are polar on the inside and non-polar on the outside. In essence, the compatibilizers bridge the gap.
From the industry’s earliest inception through the 1990’s, nylon was used almost universally due to its superior durability and strength. The disadvantage of full nylon fibers was well known. It was abrasive. In the 1990’s, polyethylene came into vogue and became the industry standard for high-loft face fabrics. The PE fibers were much less abrasive, but they sacrificed the strength that previous generations of turf fields offered. But all of that is a thing of the past as AstroTurf reinvented PE – and made it better, stronger, TRIONIC.
The STC recognized the TRIONIC innovation as a significant achievement that helped move the industry forward by providing a fiber that is less abrasive yet more durable. The award served as confirmation from industry peers that this fiber is a technological advance that raises the bar for the standards by which turf fibers are measured.
