“What can you say about this group of players [in the under 13 team] ?

“They were unbeaten in the league against strong opponents and the only game they lost all season was the semi-finals against a strong Caythorpe side where the opponent Farndons 122/6 from their allotted 18 overs with just 1 chased the ball to overtake. said First XI Captain Martyn Hill.

“The league has seen some memorable victories and individual milestones.

“[The] In the first game of the season in early May, we struggled to beat Keyworths 44/7.

“Ashton-Lee Pugh hit 35 not from 28 balls to stun Caythorpe and Eleanor Carling hit 36 not from 20 balls after we battled Burton Joyce 24-6.

“Ben Doubell chased a straight drive over the bowler to seal it [the] Victory at West Bridgeford.

“Toby Adwick achieved a special bowling magic at Bottesford where he won 6 wickets for just one run.

“And finally the final ball of the season against Ellerslie, which saw Sam Sheldon run out Jos Butleresque World Cup style to win the game by 7 runs and secure the undefeated league title.

“[They are] a special group of players, but most of all it was an incredible team effort from everyone involved,” he added.

Hill then spoke about the teams under 11 and 12.

“We were really proud to field a third competitive junior hardball team this year by including an under-12 team in the Newark Colts Youth League.

“Both teams put in an admirable performance but it is worth noting that the majority of our U11s were actually U9s and most of our U12s were U11s, which in itself presented a challenge for the players and although wins on the pitch were difficult to come by, player development was clear to say as both teams ended the season with their only wins in their last games.

“Under-11 players Kieran Lowe (Bowler of the Year) and Noah James (Batter/Player of the Year) were praised by their coach Ian Robinson for their significant improvements throughout the season, as was Ashton-Lee Pugh (Batter of the Year ) and Kristian Lowe (Bowler of the Year) and Ben Allen (Player of the Year).

“We hope their development this year in age groups above their respective ages will bode well for the 2023 season,” said Farndon’s first XI captain Martyn Hill.
