The glamor match of the week in European football is arguably on Thursday in the Europa League when Barcelona host Manchester United at the Camp Nou.
The teams meet for the first leg of their knockout round play-off ties with both in good form. Barcelona are red hot, having won eleven games in a row in all competitions and not having lost since October. Unsurprisingly, they lead La Liga by 11 points over rivals Real Madrid and should be among the favorites to win the Europa League.
As for Man United, they’ve cooled off a bit after their post-World Cup purple spot, but they’re still six games unbeaten and will provide Barca with a formidable opponent on two legs.
“They have many things and they can easily make things difficult for us,” Barcelona coach Xavi said of the Red Devils.
“We will need intensity and rhythm. The Premier League is a physically demanding competition and we need to show we can handle it.
“They make very quick transitions with players like [Marcus] rashford, [Alejandro] garnacho u [Jadon] Sancho. They have a very strong counter and we will need players who can stop those sprints. Marcus Rashford is one of the most prolific and in-form players in Europe.”
