Bayern Munich director dismisses Leroy Sane to Manchester United rumours

Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has denied speculation that Leroy Sane would move to Manchester United.

In conversation with Sky90 (h/t Fabrizio Romano) Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has claimed there is nothing to the rumors linking star winger Leroy Sane with Manchester United this summer.

Surprising reports surfaced last week claiming Manchester United had made an inquiry about Sane’s availability despite his past allegiance to Manchester City. The 26-year-old had a successful stint at the Etihad Stadium before returning to Germany in 2020 with a move to Bayern Munich.

However, Sane has not had a smooth ride at the Allianz Arena as his situation appears to be getting a little more difficult following the arrival of Sadio Mane from Liverpool this summer. It has raised some concerns about his future in Bavaria, with Manchester United emerging as one of the Germany international’s wing admirers.

But director Hasan Salihamidzic has now commented on the reports, claiming there was nothing to these claims while adding that Sane remains an important player for the reigning German champions. “There’s no truth to that. He’s an important player for us. There is nothing to say about that,” said Salihamidzic, quoted by Fabrizio Romano.

A move for Sane was always unlikely considering he was playing for Manchester United’s city rivals Manchester City. The player would not have been keen on a move, while Red Devils supporters might not have liked the idea of the club signing a former rival. However, they are likely to sign a new forward before the transfer window closes.

PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo has emerged as a target for the 20-time English championswhile they also eye AFC Ajax’s Antony as a potential recruit to bolster their front line, which looked toothless in their first Premier League game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion last Sunday.

A new centre-forward should also be a priority for Manchester United as Cristiano Ronaldo’s future remains in doubt while Anthony Martial is sidelined through injury.
