Big Updates Announced For 2024 KTM EXC-F Dual Sport Models

KTM has announced an updated EXC-F range for the 2024 model year, which according to the manufacturer contains “95% new components”. Following incremental steps in chassis and engine development over the past several years, changes for the latest-generation dual-sport models include sweeping improvements to chassis, bodywork, lighting and more.

First, the frame was revised. The 2024 EXC-F models now feature an all-new hydroformed, laser-cut and robot-welded design. According to KTM, the now black powder-coated frame brings new longitudinal and torsional flex parameters for even more rider feedback, energy absorption and straight-line stability. The footpeg mounts have also been moved inboard to be slimmer and reduce the risk of snagging. In addition, the side stand is now a fully forged, one-piece component.

At the rear of the main frame, an all-new lightweight two-piece subframe takes charge, made from a combination of polyamide and reinforced aluminum and designed to offer excellent handling and rider feedback. The new design is also shorter, more compact and more robust than the previous generation, with the ability to flex and flex in the event of an accident rather than breaking. All electronic components, including an all-new off-road control unit, are fully integrated into the subframe with no additional brackets, brackets or unnecessary jigs required.

Up front, the latest models now feature an all-new 48mm WP XACT closed-cartridge fork with a new mid-valve piston concept that optimizes oil flow within the cartridge and provides consistent damping. New fork protection rings also ensure improved protection against the ingress of dirt. In the rear, the PDS damper system has been updated with a new shock mount mated to a more compact and lighter WP XPLOR PDS rear shock with new bearing seals and pistons. Suspension at both ends is fully adjustable for compression and damping using hand clickers, with no tools required. According to KTM, preload adjustment on the rear wheel can also be done on the fly.

By tilting the engine 2° backwards and repositioning the front sprocket 3mm down, an improved center of gravity has been achieved to improve handling and manoeuvrability. Along with the benefits of mass centralization and reduced weight, the anti-squat behavior of the chassis has been significantly improved, improving traction on extreme climbs and powering out of corners on enduro special stages.

Superficially, the new EXC-F series benefits from a completely new body. This was developed with input from FMF KTM Factory racers to deliver an improved rider triangle for better knee contact, especially when standing on the pegs. A new front fender design also now features mud-shedding fins to keep dirt and mud from hitting the driver or radiators, while a new transparent polyethylene (XPE) fuel tank (2.24 gallons/8.5 liters 4 -stroke and 2.37 gallons) /9 liter 2-stroke) allows for easy fuel level monitoring and completes the body package.

Electronics monitoring is provided by a fully independent off-road control unit under the seat, replacing the use of electronic fuses and relays. In the event of an electrical component failure, the outputs are disabled individually, with each unit’s fault status indicated by a red or green LED light. This allows for quick and easy troubleshooting on the go.
